i just couldn't resist - i ordered a carvin BX250

1stnamebassist steered me to the MB15, and I also got the 115MBE. Bought them both over Labor Day weekend with added neo speakers for $810 out the door. I think Carvin has some great deals.

They only charged me $15 for shipping coast to coast. $185 total.

Very impressed with the BX250. UPS delivered it and I literally unpacked it and made sure it was all in one piece then took it straight to band practice. I plugged it in and got to know it in about 2 minutes and it delivered the goods and then some. Sweetness!

Otherwise, I'd look for a used GK Neo 112-ll. They are 30 lbs, a bit bulky but with good side, bar handles and sound great. My .02 would be a single 12 and eventually a pair of 12s for best weight/portability/modularity. EA Wizzy 12s are also about 35 lbs and small form factor with recessed side handles and they sound superb. Good luck .

I just purchased a BX250. Should be here next week. I was also able to pick up a Barefaced One10 locally :) This should make for a great home practice rig. Very excited!!!!

I couldn't resist either. $10 shipping to ohio, and though they are out of stock on the shelves I should still expect it byou the end of next week because Bob next door is building more right now. Darn GAS, for stuff I don't even need.... :-D

I've been wanting to get a GK MB108 for a while since my practice amp broke. Now I just read this thread and then ordered a BX250. TB made me do it ;) Shipping is $15 to PA. I have to decide on whether to get the 2x10 or 1x15 micro cab next.

It doesn't have a deep bass switch, but you certainly can dial in more bass. I agree with you on the built in high pass filtering. You can see it even when turning up the bass control. The peak of the bass control is around 60 hz. Using the parametric EQ you can actually boos a bit bellow that. Looks like around 48 hz. I can't do any measurements now, but I was looking at some old ones I saved and was trying to decipher my notes :)

i got an email from ebay today saying that my head had shipped, but when i went to check the tracking, it said it was delivered - i went out on the porch, and there it was. the box was very light, lighter than you'd expect with a head in it. i opened it up - it was extremely well packaged, btw, and pulled it out. the only thing i had that i could plug it into was a 1996 carvin 100 watt 15" speaker combo. it's been living in the closet for several years. by today's standards, it's weak and heavy and i never loved the tone, but it's okay tonewise. the rat fur was tormented by one of the cats, and he actually dug through the fur and deeply gouged into the wood on both sides, so it looks pretty disreputable - you could never sell it or trade it in.

anyway, i unplugged the combo head, plugged in the BX250 and tried it out. carvin shipped it with everything turned down and the mute on, which i think is a nice touch. i'm still dialing in sounds for my various basses - oddly the mikro sounds the best so far - and yes, a bass boost would be nice, but that's what pedals are for. but overall it's nice and configurable, a little bigger than i expected but insanely light. i could definitely through it into my gear backpack and not even notice it was there, which is so cool.

anyway, here's a dark, grainy picture that shows the sawdust from the cat digging away at the combo :D

A closer look at your 'EQ'ed for flat' curve shows -1db@62Hz and -3db@40Hz. Not too bad really. Active basses with a 40Hz bass control may be able to improve on that.

The input impedance spec on the website is '>200k ohms'. Probably too low for a piezo pickup (on an electric upright).
