i just couldn't resist - i ordered a carvin BX250

I've been using a BX500 for several years and it's been a great, reliable amp. Although the 'native' sound of the BX series is very transparent, the EQ is flexible enough to dial in pretty much anything you want.

Don't expect much grind from that drive control. It's effects are subtle at best. It has some sort of effect, but I can't exactly pinpoint what it's doing.

I noticed the sale, too. Now I'm trying not to get too weak in the knees to resist getting a BX1500.

Enjoy your new head (and maybe look into one of Avatar's 12/6 neos).

regarding the Neo 112 - do the side handles recess enough that it can be used standing on a side so it's vertical and do you happen to know if the tweeter can be turned all the way off?

Well I haven't set mine on its side, but I have turned the tweeter all the way off. I play with a pick and that darn tweeter amplified the pick sound to an aweful level

It was either that or an MB 200 when I was headshopping. At $169, that Carvin's a winning choice.

FWIW, if an Ampeg 210AV sounds as good with the Carvin as it does with the GK, it makes a nice little rig. juuuuust sayin.

i thought about it, but i thought to break away from carvin a bit - my only rig for years was a carvin rig, and it would be nice to try something else. on the other hand, san diego is only two hours away...

here's my last carvin rig, and let me tell you, this thing was a tank!

I saw one of these heads on EBay last night. I thought the price was a mistake but I went to the Carvin site and that is the sale price! I'm thinking about grabbing one too while they are on sale. Carvin has all their bass heads on sale right now. You can get a BX700 or B1000 for only $329!

I have that head in a 1X10 combo. With an added 15 it's killer. Incredibly versatile, and loud enough for any mid size gig, or gig with PA backing.

Love it much more than any Ampeg I ever played through.

I do like the controls on this amp. And for live applications, the compressor and mid-scoop control work great. As an old Eden user, I find the controls very intuitive.

I have an MB210 (same amp), it's a gem!

I have it too. I like it, but wish I had gotten the head like OP instead of the combo. The only other thing I'd change is to give it an effects loop.

I've made a few purchases from Carvin lately... a Bx500, BX1500 and multiple cabs.. I got two of the MB115 cabs that I am running through the BX500, and it is one of the best sounding rigs I have ever played through. I got a BRX 2X10 cab as well, and plan to get a BRX 4X10 cab in the Spring. I have always like Carvin amps and cabs. The BRX cabs are extremely heavy, but they are well made and sound great. I still think Carvin is the best amp company right now. You have to have a decent understanding of EQ to get them to sound good, but they are great once you dial them in.

Where are you located that shipping something that small is $50? It was only $15 for me.

It looks like there is a high pass filter in use when the tone controls are included. Also, the power amp was not included. Specs on the Carvin website suggest minimal high pass filtering: +/- 1db 10Hz to 20kHz. So, does it have deep bass or is it as your measurements suggest?

Anyone know if it will work with a piezo pickup?
