I just did something incredibly stupid (fried amp content)

Ok - I just did something incredibly stupid and am embarrassed to even ask about, but here goes...

I just got a new Milkman Half and Half amplifier. Played it for about an hour and then decided to test it alongside another one of my amps.

The mistake I made - I actually plugged the speakon out of my DB751 into the speakon jack on the back of the Half and Half (instead of the cabinet). When I switched the DB751 off of standby, it immediately clicked back over to standby. When I realized what I had done, I tried to play through the Half and Half - and though it would power on, no sound comes out.

Obviously I fried something - just wondering what damage I may have done and if it is repairable. Maybe something hard to diagnose without looking at it, but just wanted to see. Clearly an expensive mistake - just not sure how expensive...

Man, so sorry. We all make mistakes and some, unfortunately ,cost more.
I'd be in the phone with Milkman tomorrow.
Hopefully it's not too bad, but I feel badly for you bass brother. Wish I could lend some technical knowledge but I've got nothing but empathy for ya.

Yeah - I pinged Milkman already and hope it is repairable. In all my years, I've never done something so dumb.

I have another Half and Half on the way, so won't be without it. Wanted one for my home down in AZ too.

It was one of the best sounding amps I've ever heard - while it worked...

It should be easily repairable, the issue will of course be cost. That's a fairly expensive power module that's used in that amp.

You sure are right about that. I’m never even going to have two of my amps in the same room at the same time again…

Man, sorry to hear about the mishap. If that's the dumbest thing you've ever done then you're good. I've done way dumber things. For instance, I was within a hair of putting super glue into my eye thinking it was eye drops. When I told my (now deceased) father and physician, his eyes got big as saucers like he just got shocked by electricity. Then, he looked at his progeny and shook his head. Yeah, and that's just for starters. (Hope that made you at least grin a little bit.)

I set my head and face on fire once, my dad had a similar reaction to Hank Hill. It's whatever time it was and already the boy's not right.

Well - not the stupidest thing I’ve ever done. It’s the stupidest thing I’ve done lately. I guess that should be consolation of some kind

What a huge bummer!
As we've seen, even very experienced players can make mistakes with connecting heads and cabs with sometimes very expensive outcomes.
I know most TB members swear by head-and-cab rigs but at least with combo's I can't make this mistake.... and I probably would at some stage if I was using different heads and cabs.

Just to make you feel better, I once accidentally plugged the output of a a Crown DC-300 power amp into the output of an SWR SM-400. The SWR lost that contest and the Magic Smoke appeared from its chassis. I was able to get it repaired, but I never made that mistake again.

Eh **** happens. I’ll get it fixed and keep rolling. Did it once in 35 years. If I can keep from doing it for the next 35, I should be golden

A different colored speakon on one end of the cable could help remind you what end you're hooking up where.
