I just died a little inside

My recent experience with UPS was that if they paid the full insurance amount they took the bass. Also, if the music store paid the shipping (even if you paid them for it), the insurance contract is betweem them and Fedex. If Fedex is like UPS, they won't even talk with you about it. They may work with the music store about repair.

In my case, the seller went to Staples, who shipped it UPS, so UPS actually considered Staples as their customer. Refund went UPS to Staples to seller to me. The seller, an individual, was good about making sure the claim was settled but did make me wait until he got paid before I got a refund. It was a communication fiasco.

It depends on how the insurance contract is worded, but it probably says something about them taking possession of the contents if they pay the total insured amount. Don't know about partial claim. I didn't think I could get it fixed and have it good as new for less than the insured amount.

Hope you have a better experience than I did. But at least I got my money back eventually, so I can't really complain. Personally, if I paid for an unbroken instrument I wouldn't want a repaired one.

UPS will receive the Bass or any other damaged item that they pay a claim on. FedEx should do the same. Since their contract is with the shipper and not the recipient, the seller is reimbursed and the seller deals with the purchasing recipient.

My condolences on the damaged Bass. That is a profound tragedy.
