Hi Ken,

Thanks for your detailed response and clarifying exactly what orchestral Spirocores are! Really helpful. The bass in question probably falls in the category of the smaller body (5/8) relatively cheaper basses from Europe but made with good wood. Now that you have clarified that the orchestra Spirocores are essentially jazz strings maybe the strings are okay anyway.

I think I will get my bass to a luthier because it does need some work on the nut and some other minor work. It is really a nice punchy jazz bass and perhaps after getting the work done I can better assess whether I like these strings or want to go with trying some others.

Sounds like a plan...... I have owned quite a few small 3/4 or 5/8 Basses (depending on which way you measure) and they are usually a bit tighter than larger 3/4 or 7/8. This makes for difficult bowing with the Spiros. Many of the larger German and Austrian Basses are 42-43" string length and are darker sounding Basses to begin with.

The regular 3/4 and 5/8 like yours make for great Jazz type Basses with Spiros, Obligatos and several other strings now available that didn't exist 20-30 years ago....
