MIJ's came with black headstocks, and, some with all-black necks, as well.

Used to be able to pick 'em up, for a song. However, as with everything else, the prices have climbed to ridiculous levels.

Indeed! I own an original 80's Jazz Bass Special with all black neck and headstock. I picked it up for a song 15 years ago. So far the only bass I've owned that's increased in value!

I have the same - 80's, black neck and headstock - my second bass ever. I traded a Squire P Bass and $90 for it.

Indeed! I also remember that I carted the Squire around in a crappy acoustic guitar case. The salesman said it was the most pathetic case that he had ever seen and spotted me a free case with a broken latch!

Why don't Lakland, Sadowsky, EBMM, Lull etc., etc., ect.... put matching headstocks on their standard basses?!!!

Like Fender, it's most likely a cost issue and most people prefer the look of the natural headstock, like me. But, as usual, Fender is the punching bag though they're FAR from the only company that uses natural headstocks as their standard.

Unless it's black like on a Spector or Pilot or the Jazz Bass Specials (Duff bass).
