Matching headstocks is not something I care about. In fact I'd prefer uthem. I've been a Fender fan for a very long time but when I realised that they don't make what I want I made my own. I cost a lot less too.

Well, I don’t like matching headstocks at all. I much prefer natural or black headstocks.

I'm not even a fan of black headstocks. It's natural for me.

Build/assemble your own is the only way to get what you want! You can get it done much cheaper than a FCS and not have to wait a year or more.

There is very little non Fender items used and being an assemblage, this Bass won't have a high resale value but that means nothing to me because I don't intend to ever sell it!

That's the way I went except I built the bodies myself. I was a Fender fan for decades but they didn't make what I wanted in a 5 string bass so I built not one but two. Way cheaper and very gratifying to get the basses I wanted.

Here's what I want from Fender:

A passive P-bass with a retainer for the A-string, a pickup that actually sounds like a classic P-bass, a standard Fender-style bridge, a "modern" nut width, a classic C-shaped neck and a 9.5" radius fretboard. Basically a bog standard P-bass with the addition of a string retainer for the A-string. No silly "innovations" like those nasty fluted tuners or the V-Mod pickups with different magnets in the two coils.

Unfortunately they don't currently offer this, and haven't since the American Standard series.

Love my 2010 American Standard P bass. Wish I had bought the American Standard J bass I tried in a local store and said - I will think about it. When I went back it was gone.

Custom built this a dozen years ago. Green everywhere, including back of neck — but chose black headstock. I also love matching headstocks — but this was where my head was at the time.

There are times I wish the silver sparkle had a silver sparkle headstock. But at the same time... I love that piano black gloss look. So it's all good. I like em both.

Not in my opinion. The “standard” G&L headstock looks distinctive- I like it

Has anyone ever asked for a black headstock on anything other than a black bass?

Black gloss headstocks were popular on dark and trans red Stratocasters for awhile. My SO had one.

I love matching headstocks.

Non-matching headstocks don’t bother me if the body is painted a solid color and the headstock is a natural or stained wood finish.

What I find to be really unattractive are wood grain bodies with a wood grain headstock that is either another species of wood or stained differently than the body, like Fodera. A quick way to make a high-end instrument look cheap. Still in disbelief they went that direction.

I don’t really care about what Fender does anymore unless they come up with a <6 lb P bass that sounds like a classic P bass without those tinny mid scooped pickups they use in the AmPro lines and below. I don’t see that happening.
