I love black head stock with dark rosewood fretboard on CAR, LPB, cosmic green or any modern metallic color body.

Fender totally missed the boat on those. They would be selling like crazy if they had the black painted necks like the originals

I like the black headstock face, ala Spector. It looks sweet when I've seen it on a Sadowsky, a Valenti and yes, a Fender.

But I actually prefer a regular ol' natural headstock on a Fender-style bass, especially if it's aged to a nice honey color.

Matching headstocks belong on Ibanez basses from the late 80s/early 90s.

EXACTLY!!! Now... back in the day... if we wanted something different/personalized... well... we had the guts/vision/talent to do it ourselves, without worrying about resale value. Hence all of the '60's/'70's refins, RIGHT?

In this particular case, with the bass in the original post, the headstock is black because the bass in question is a reissue of a particular model, that had a black headstock regardless of the colour of the body. That's why it isn't offered with a matching green headstock.

Custom colours with matching headstock was originally (in the 60's) a premium feature, and it seems Fender wants to keep it that way, for whatever reason (so that they can charge more for special editions or custom shop instruments, perhaps). There are many non-Fender FSO's in various price ranges available with matching headstock so unless the logo on the headstock is of crucial importance there's plenty of choice.

MIJ's came with black headstocks, and, some with all-black necks, as well.

Used to be able to pick 'em up, for a song. However, as with everything else, the prices have climbed to ridiculous levels.

They'll happily do it through the Fender CS. Just pay 3 times as much than you normally would for an American standard.

Why don't Lakland, Sadowsky, EBMM, Lull etc., etc., ect.... put matching headstocks on their standard basses?!!!
