I know right! They're ripping people off so much by donating all that money to charity.
A nice gift and tax right off for a good cause .
Maybe they'll do another one for covid 19 vaccine .

Rics are hand finished I believe but they use CNC machines, the old ones were pretty much made by hand though. I don't know much about Musicman's maybe they used them for these basses?
Comparing any production bass to this particular 1 off signature is not really a fair comparison. It is one thing to build 100's of Rickenbacker basses each year that are built to a standard spec. It is different to take a 40-year-old, heavily gigged instrument and take it apart and analyze every little component, scratch, dent, etc, and then replicate it exactly. Clearly, MM has put a lot of time and energy into producing this instrument, and then they are donating proceeds to a charity and people still bitch about the price even though they're clearly going to be losing money on this.
I agree, if Jamerson's original P bass was found, measured etc. and reproductions were made of it I wouldn't pay 7000 bucks for it but wouldn't bitch about it either.
One reason is I hate relic'ed basses but donating the money to charity is a class act.

I've been a huge AC/DC fan since the late 70s and I still love their stuff. IMHO, their music is a lesson in being effective with a "less is more" formula. Sure, it's the same instrumentation, mostly in same keys, mostly with the same chords, the bass playing mostly roots, the riffs/hooks on the same 'blue' notes, the accents in largely the same places, the drummer playing straight 4/4. But they are in tight lockstep and commit as a group to what they're doing...seriously, listen to "Riff Raff" live from '78 and how they shine:

I borrowed a very similar Stingray (though it was a '78) for some recording back around 1990. The owner, who wasn't really a bass player, offered to sell it to me for $200.. in today's dollars that's $398.47. I always regretted buying it even though I'm not primarily a Music Man guy, 'cause there are just certain times where that flavor is just right.
I do agree with some of the other posters in preferring Cliff's sound on the P-bass.

My next bass is probably going to be a Music Man Stingray Special and I would've been interested in this one, but I can't justify to my very loose morals this kind of money... no disrespect intended to Mr Williams, of course. AC DC moves people largely to his contribution.
Glad I read through about being for charity...otherwise ***? If I ever had the 7 grand, wouldn't spend it on that bass. When I saw the thread, I was thinking how I thought the Fender Jazz Ultra I was looking at was over-priced at $2000!
Wow! $7K??? Too much for me. Looks like they did a nice job of recreating it. I do enjoy Music Mans I was just unable to keep the necks straight on any of the ones I had without a lot of maintenance. Learning to play less is usually one of the last things good musicians learn.
Or 3+ StingRays. Or 6+ used Stingrays.
Or a crapload of tacos from Taco Bell. We could do this all day. Odds are that those making these comparisons were never going to get one anyway, so what’s the point?
