I Love Stingrays, but $7,000?

The website doesn't say it is handmade, but handcrafted instead. Probably means it was made on the same assembly as other stingrays, and the aging done by hand.

From what I saw when I looked up he difference in the two terms, there's not much if any at all:

"It's definition of “Handcrafted”; to fashion or make by hand. Merriam Webster: Handmade; made by hand or by a hand process. Handcrafted; to fashion by handicraft. ... Handmade; made by hand or a hand process."

Handcrafted vs. Handmade.

I don't like to be publicly critical of instrument makers as I want to see everyone flourish and succeed. All in all, variety and diversity are good things and I miss the days when they were in abundance at music stores.

But I will say this- for those who pay attention, I can only imagine Music Man is losing its credibility. Sterling Ball is a pretty vocal guy about how MM does things differently. Not long ago he criticized other companies by noting that their version of R&D is just putting out artist tribute models.

I will stop there.

I mean, a normal Stingray is what, $2300? And that one’s a copy of a pre-Ernie Ball model, so not a regular production body, neck, probably electronics, or maybe hardware, and it’s handbuilt and has like a relic job, plus they’re donating to a charity. I wouldn’t pay it, but it’s probably semi-reasonable all things considered.

Yeah, if you view it as being more in line with a charity auction piece it's far less obscene.

I love my Stingray, and most things, Ernie Ball, but this is a little over my head.

What do you think?

Mike

It's basically a classic stingray with the mutes removed and a 3 bolt neck. I got my classic ray for 1200 and i don't use the mutes. $5800 is not worth a 3 bolt neck (to me).

I wouldn't buy it, but i'm sure 26 people worldwide will.

Proceeds to The American Alzheimer’s Association Gulf Coast Chapter....

I like this, and if it came with a charitable receipt I'd order one today. May order one anyway after all these years being "Cliff" in a tribute :)

Alright - ordered one. It'll be cool to own after so much time playing Cliff :) I'll post a NBD when it arrives.

Cheers

Why not just buy a sunburst pre-EB Stingray for $2,500.00 and take off the pickguard?

That's like having 4 quarters in your pocket, and comparing it to a commemorative silver dollar, featuring a portrait of Muhammad Ali, where all the proceeds go to a Parkinson's disease charity.
