I Love Stingrays, but $7,000?

I’m sure there is some Benefit to Mr. Ball in some way. Yes I’m saying that.

To many mutual acquaintances for me to NOT think this way of Him.

AC DC is probably the most successful group with the simplest music of all time. I'm not saying Cliff Williams is an absolute disaster - he could keep time (as a bass player should). Every single song is in 4/4 using open E and A strings and some combination of 3 other notes, usually of which are G, C, and D. I mean could he be any more of a one-trick pony than that?

Much is made about Michael Anthony being an average bass player. I've seen it here in threads several times, with the knock that all he played was 4/4. Except Anthony IMO came up with more complex and interesting parts that I've ever heard from Cliff Williams.

The band wrote many good, catchy songs however simple they may been. And yes they did them well. I'm not disputing that Cliff Williams is not a legend, at least for the very fact that AC DC was so famous and have been around for more than 40 years.

To me AC/DC could sort of be considered the McDonald's of rock and roll, they sell the most burgers but they don't taste the best.

Because it's an exact replica.


Go in to any goodwill store, and buy some grotty old Disneyland gift shop plate, from the 70's, for $1.50.

Now take that to a specialist, and have them fabricate an exact replica, down to every scratch, chip, and faded colour, using identical materials to the original.

How much do you think that is going to cost you?

i doubt that anyone could show me a stingray (or a fender, gibson, whatever) that i'd say is worth $7000. that ax is underwhelmingly average, has frets, and it's meant to look like something i could care less about. for me it's a 'big whup' but i'll give a 'big yay' to anyone who wants one.

i think there are good reasons to inflate the price of ordinary objects to 'auction' them. raising money for good causes is a good thing. many have donated to worthwhile charities/endeavors. helping our brothers/sisters/neighbors can't be a bad thing. donating has value and it's worth it to do so --- so i hope the sales of the 26 instruments go well for the sake of the charity/beneficiaries.

I think this needs to be on the first page of almost every gear thread.

Nobody wants to think of what it costs to make something.
