I Love Stingrays, but $7,000?

I guess that it all comes do own to the saying “whatever the market will bear”.
I suppose it’s considered a collectible instrument and collectors can and will pay the $7000 for the instrument.

It definitely makes me feel better about paying $360 for my new Sterling by Musicman Ray 5HH.

The last time I bought a US made StingRay, in the 2000s, it was under a grand brand new (basscentral.com). Nowadays EBMM's prices have gotten exorbitantly high. Two grand for a StingRay? Crazy. The first one I ever bought in the 90s was $649.

You ever listen to AC/DC? Within that context, Cliff Williams is a great bass player. Please enlighten us- why would you say that and who is a good bass player in your opinion?

Here are my thoughts on this:

1. It's nice to see Music Man make artist models. Fender has done that for year and I think it's helped them.
2. Price is low considering the low number of instruments made. It's the price of a high end Fender Custom Shop bass not even a tribute model. See Phil Lynott's bass as others have noted.
3. I think they under evaluated the demand for this instrument; AC/DC is still an enormously popular band and they could have produced a lot more than 26. On the other hand, it's the scarcity factor, Supreme is very good at this. Make a little less than the demand and watch it disappear fast and show up on auction later at a premium.
4. Given that Music Man has build amazing instruments for years but has arguably suffered from average marketing (I still have a hard time differentiating their new Stingrays compared with the original ones which is crazy knowing they are vastly different instruments under the hood), I am wondering if they are not starting to turbo charge their marketing?
5. Price low or high, they are achieving something positive which is, we're talking about them! A brand is dead when nobody banters over them.
6. Proceeds go to a worthy cause; "All proceeds from the sale of this Cliff Williams Icon series bass will be donated to The American Alzheimer’s Association Gulf Coast Chapter who provides support and resources for those living with or caring for someone with Alzheimer's or other dementias."

In 1995 The average home price was just over 100k, the average price for a home in 2020 is close to 270 to 300k, I’m no economist but it seems that your analogy for the 199? to 2020 Stingray is on par with almost anything else for sale these days. Two grand for a Stingray Special to me is not crazy at all. Have you played one, they are crazy good. In this day and age anything of quality is expensive. As for $7000 for a limited edition hand built MM, with the proceeds going to charity, I think it’s unfair to criticize the intent of MM. I can’t afford one right now, but if I had the coconuts I would get one for sure.

No, it's funny how people react about it. For me, it is foolish to spent 7k on a bass unless it is investment ( to sell it for bigger price, but l am not talking about that).
If l would have unlimited amount of cash, l would still think it is a foolish thing to do, but - do you or anyone else has RIGHT to do such foolish buy with his money? Yes, by all means!

I think I'm not who they're targetting this to. I like AC/DC and all but... if I want a good Stingray, there are plenty of other offerings for a LOT less money. That would be what I'd buy (not buying anything because I already have a 2002 natural/maple that's been my #1 since I bought it). This Cliff Williams bass seems to be a collectors item. Plenty of companies do that, and that's ok.

What's not understood about the fact it's intended to be an exact replica? Considering relic guitars have been around for years, is it that you've just discovered they exist, or do you make these kinds of comments in every thread relating to multi-thousand dollar relic guitars? If it's the latter, does that not get exhausting?

Considering part of that price is going to charity ( hopefully more and less), a very worthy cause, you not only get a bass, but the satisfaction of helping your fellow man.

if you looking at this as a straight up bass purchase, you may be missing the point.
