I love that Cirrus sound!

Had one for years. Sold it because I moved to short scale. Recently came across another one locally and couldn't pass it up. I don't think it will see much stage time but man does it sound soooo good.
Two things that make it more of a studio bass for me personally - the scale length and the neck shape, especially the shoulders. Had the same issue with neck shoulders on my 90s Warwick Streamer Jazzman.

Quick Cirrus in the wild story:
I almost injured myself on a 5k Run, directly as a result of a Peavey Cirrus.
On this route through a nice neighborhood of North OKC, they have live music acts peppered throughout.
This guy's monstrous, 'beefier Ken-Smith' thing he had going, almost made me roll my ankle.
He had it up under he neck too, and was dressed like Gerald Veasley.
Which somehow contributed to the sound.

Your reaction to this reminds me of the other day. I slapped Stanley Clark's Journey to love on the turntable, as soon as the drums hit on Silly Putty i'm gone!

I mentioned in another thread that in the late 90s/early 2000s it seemed that all the heavy hitters in our area playing modern jazz, soul, and funk played a Ken Smith. Well if it wasn't a Ken Smith, it was a Cirrus. Or they had one of each. But yes, Cirrus was/is such a great sounding bass. And in the hands of a great player, it's beautiful!
I recently sold some cabs I couldn't use anymore and the person who purchased them brought his Cirrus to test them out. I hooked up my GB Streamliner and he plugged in his Cirrus. Whoah I was super surprised and impressed with his tone 
. Beautiful woody bark. We spent the next hour of so talking and playing his bass. Needless to say I have been checking out Cirrus basses lately.

Is he playing a newer Cirrus or is it an older U.S. version?
My 2nd love as a growing young bassist. First was a stingray. I still love the cirrus. I have gravitated towards Spector and I consider them kissing cousins.
I think I just love responsive, punchy, low-mid heavy basses.

Just a warning… if you try it, you will like it. I’ve been looking at these cirrus basses and Spectors due to that growly midrange. I also miss my stingray special 5 HH. Though the string spacing is tight for me and I’d rather have a single H model.

Just listened to this on some good Altec Lansing speakers. Oh yeah that's the tone I heard when that person brought his Cirrus over

I've got an older Cirrus 5 (bubinga, I think), but it's made in Indonesia. It's not a BXP; it's got the graphite headstock cover, but no PowerPlate. I'm guessing it was a very early Indonesian version when they initially transferred manufacturing there. Maybe an Indonesian prototype. Got it used but prisitne with the original case for about $700 back in the mid-2000s. It's my absolute favorite bass guitar; I'll most likely never part with it until...well...until I can't play it anymore.
