I missed prom

Reminds me of song 'bout Mohair Sam.

Who is the hippie that's
Happenin' all over our town
Tearin up the chicks with
The message that he lays down

Who is the coolest guy
That is what am
Fast talkin', slow walkin'
Good lookin' Mohair Sam

Chicks are makin' reservations
For his lovin' so fine
Screamin' and a faintin'
He's got 'em all waitin' in line

Who is the coolest guy
That is what am
Fast talkin', slow walkin'
Good lookin' Mohair Sam
I guess that did come across as smug, even if that wasn't my intent.:atoz:

I feel really awful. I dressed out, got my hair done, etc., but due to getting the wrong address and me leaving the address and my cell home, I missed an important milestone.

Did anyone miss prom? How can I cope?

I don't care about proms, but do you mean that you stood up your date after she probably spent a boatload on a dress, and turned down other guys?

OP is female, fdeck. Of course that doesn't necessarily have to mean her date wasn't...

Am I the only one wondering why GrayHat's prom was scheduled in the middle of June (when school is traditionally not in session)? I thought those were in April or May - before final exams.

I'm going to go get some enchiladas. Later.

Well, typically I'd recommend just fapping it out, but prom....ah, I remember.

Generally it's supposed to be one of those telling milestones of youth and for some guys it's a rite of passage.

Well, it's not. I went to prom once. The girl I asked weaseled her way out of it the day of it with a totally bogus excuse.

But hey, look at me! Going nuts and loving it.

Look. You'll have plenty of chances to get down.

So fap it out. :D

EDIT: I see you're not a dude. Well.....get this dude, hang with him, have a few great times, and see if he's the dude that motors your boat ;)

Us southerners get out of school much earlier than places up north (and I believe out west). My girlfriend's younger brother just graduated from high school within this past week and had prom about 2 or 3 nights ago. They're from New York.

Did not know that.

Anyway, prom is only important if you are going to stay in your hometown and have the same friends for your entire life, plan on going to reunions when you're an adult, and have what I've heard called "school pride".

Most people don't retain their high school friends after high school and "school pride" makes more sense for college. Going to reunions is up to you, but it sounds mega lame to me.

I wouldn't worry about it. I didn't go and have no regrets.

Well put.

I'm definitely going to my reunion if it's not too much trouble. That will be quite a show.

And yes I'm mean spirited and will only attend in order to laugh (internally) at everybody I disliked in HS as they proceeded to do nothing of their lives.

:ninja:

Your 10 year?
I have skipped 20 and 30, but I went to the 10. What I saw was all the popular kids looked kinda middle age and tired, the jocks had little landscaping companies. All the girls that kinda looked plain at 18 looked awesome at 28. The nerdy and awkward kids all grew into the truly cool folks they were meant to be, and would be for the rest of their lives. The kids who were cool at 18 were all looking back at high school like that was when they peaked.

Yeah, a little mean spirited, but it was great to see the turn-around.

Yeah, my 10 year. But that's in 6 years. It should give me the time to start and finish my phd :D Extra bragging points ya' know. :ninja:

Well, I didn't go to my prom (graduated in '91, and I'm a guy, so my opinion is probably irrelevant). My situation was likely different. I didn't want to go. I also didn't want to go to my graduation (but that's another story for another thread). I did go to the Junior Prom of a girl I dated from another H.S. my Senior year and had a blast!

Three years out of H.S., the girl I was dating took me to her Senior Prom and we had a blast. I wouldn't have had fun at my Prom, none of my friends were going either.

I guess my point is it's not necessarily a missed milestone. You can still experience it. I did. I guess the big difference is I honestly didn't want to go to mine, and you did.

As long as you're not super attached to the notion of it being your Senior Prom, depending on the people you date (luck of the draw, I know), you may get another chance.

My 10yr reunion was canceled due to "lack of interest" (apparently more felt as I did than I thought). Makes me wonder what our Prom turnout was.... Oh, well.

How can you cope? Accept it as one of life's little hiccups. It's not what you do or don't do in life that makes you who you are, it's what you do with the curveballs and pitfalls life throws at you. Anyone can sail on calm seas, it's how you weather the storms that reveal your character.

My Mémère(grandmother) and ma tante (my aunt) used to say "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger." Cold comfort, I know. But it's good advice, and it's true. Believe it or not, larger, more important milestones are ahead.

Hope this helps. I know Prom is important to girls, and is a big deal socially. Just try to keep you focus on what lies ahead. People who dwell too much on the past miss out on the present and the potential future. I've seen friends do it.

Well heck! Who DID go to prom?
I always thought I was being all edgy and stuff by refusing the dixie cup. Now it seems no one had any of the Koolaid!
None of us were in an actual boyfriend/girlfriend but at the last minute a bunch of my friends in our extended band and drill team crew coupled off and the closer friends among the band members went in matching outfits. So in my case my best friend and the brother of one of the drill team girls got our matching tuxedos and along with the girls from the drill team went.

Then we uncoupled and went to the after parties. Truth was that back then Prom meant that real couples who had not had sex yet would do so on that night while the rest of us hit the under 21 clubs

I went to mine, but that was back in the Dark Ages (1968). About all I remember about it was the hideous blue brocade tux jacket I wore. Not sure why I thought it looked cool at the time.

Oh yeah, I also remember just wanting to get out of there and go get drunk. Which a bunch of us proceeded to do posthaste. Nothing out of the ordinary. That was our normal weekend behavior in high school...

My junior and senior proms were two of the highlights and best memories of my entire high school experience.

I can't help but wonder, regarding something I assume was so important to you, why so sloppy with the details? Did you really want to go, or was it kind of an afterthought?

If you really wanted to go and just boffed the details, I guess for you this prom will always represent that night when you had an epiphany about responsibility and planning ahead. Kind of a maturation moment. Which might be one of the best things that ever resulted from a prom night.

prom was too much emphasis on being fancy and not enough emphasis on being fun. enjoyed every other school dance much more.
Well the original educational purpose was to teach the kids of masses how to act when in the high society/fancy social party scene. For those without a societal coming out debutante party it was the school system acting in lieu of those societal structures
