And why is there more people enjoying themselves at this gig, than my cover bands gigs? I bet these people haven't even heard the material they are listening to 800,000 times. It doesn't make any sense.

I have a feeling they aren't getting paid much for this gig if any. What's the point in that? Everything is about money, right?

But seriously, these "bands" pop up all the time and there is always a different genre, death metal, grindcore, power violence, etc......
and the fans of these sub genres are the new gestapo. Honestly, next time you happen to be speaking to some of these guys, offer some constructive criticism or better still, try talking about a completely style of music. Bags of fun.

Music is an emotional response or an attempt to illicit an emotional response. This music bothers some people, which means it has does its job. Being a consumer of often maligned music myself, I can tell you most people are suppose it hate it, and your dislike of it is the best compliment you can give it. Some music is a purposeful rejection of conventional social trends (ie Jazz). The "bonding" here is over that rejection and a commiserating over the idea that at its core life is a brutal, bloody, pain filled experience ending in inevitable, forgettable, demise (ie Blues.)
If this isn't a sentiment you are connecting with, then you don't get it. Music you don't connect with, or have an emotional response to, sounds bad to you. I hate country and show tunes because I have zero connection to them. It's not the music, its the listener.

That would all be 100% true!.....if we were talking about music,....in this case we're not.

That was a primitive bonding ritual sans music.

And THAT is a completely subjective assessment based on your own personal feelings, which carries as much weight as any other opinion.

Tribesmen of South America and Africa produce music with nothing more than crude drums and their voices. It has no notes, no scales or concept of theory and is still the most heartfelt of music. It is also a primitive bonding experience; one which all cultures have engaged in at one point or another.
Jibes aside, primitive bonding rituals are pretty awesome.

It is music BTW. They are all playing the same notes, in time, with song structure. You just can't hear it.

I don't see how a bunch of adolescent youth making noise compares with time-honored tribal music passed on from generations, based upon deeply rooted sacred traditions and a shared belief system.

Do you really believe those kids are participating in a bonding experience such as that, or anything substantial at all?!!!!

Anyway, musical instrument and amplifier manufacturers are sure happy that more and more people think that is music. They're cleaning up.

Anyone who doesn't think that Rock n' Roll is a deeply rooted tradition in America is out of touch. One man's "sacred" is another man's "blasphemous." And yes, the kids in the video definitely looked like they were bonding.

They can call it whatever they want. Who are you to define what music is and why should anyone have to meet your standard? You can say that you don't like it want but that doesn't make it not music. Music can be anything the artist wants it to be.

I don't need a reason to not like something. Not every piece of art out there is made for me.

To use the food example yet again, there are some dishes that I'm just not going to like, no matter how well prepared. That's okay, it doesn't mean that the dish isn't food, just that it doesn't appeal to my tastes.

The same with music or any kind of art or media. I'm not a big fan of horror movies. Does that mean that they're not film or that they're not good movies? Not necessarily. Just that they don't really appeal to my interests/tastes.

Again, the OP isn't old, he just doesn't like it. And what these kids are doing isn't new at all, its late 80's grindcore.
I hate the stuff my kids listen to because its weak @$$ synth pop performed by what I'm pretty sure a hermaphroditic "guys" that look like Ellen DeGeneres. I don't dislike it because its too "loud", I dislike it because it demonstrates how nutless music has become.
Finally, to put a bow on it, every younger generation makes art that the previous one hates; that's just how it works. Remember when the Beatles were the scourge of music in the 60's? Now they are the stuff you put on to relax. Opinions about music are a moving target.

There's always been innocuous pop music just as there's always been stuff that's much more fringe oriented. Pat Boone was doing castrated versions of songs decades ago, just like Alice Cooper was clearly going to lead us down the dark road to the apocalypse with his satanic ways.
