I Must Be Getting Old

Players and fans of crap like this like to complain about how their local music scenes are dead. They forget that the operative word is "music," which seems to be non-existent, in most of this video.

There is nothing wrong with thrash styles, if the music is present, and articulated well:

I think if you put the band in the original video on the same stage as Joe Jackson or Anthrax, they'd sound like utter crap instead of total and undeniable utter crap. I agree there are ways to make this genre work, but the band in the video is just balls-out, and there's all sorts of sound problems to where it's just one big cluster of nasty muddiness.

They put on a good show though...

I did like in the video at about 10:15, where the guy is tuning... Heh... tuning! I wanted to leave a message on youtube that said something like "sorry buddy, but all the tuning in the world won't help your band sound any better," but that's just mean.

I'm not super into hardcore, but I could appreciate what they're doing.

While I'm sure it wouldn't increase the enjoyability for everyone in this thread, I'm sure a proper studio mix would've probably sounded better than the live one that they had on youtube.

For the record here's the opening track to one of my favorite CD's that I've purchased in 2012, be forewarned it's also a "hardcore" influenced sound.

Man, some bands really pull off the abrasive, atonal dissonant thing. (Think Dillinger escape plan or Botch) and I can get into them (interesting rhythms, odd time, awesome bass playing/tone), but the stuff linked in the OP was.... Wow.

It looks like they are having fun. The crowd seems into them. No harm, no foul. Now, should they start rehearsing next door to me, well, I might need to take umbrage. I'm just thankful there's not a YT of me back in the 80's wearing a tuxedo playing Mack the Knife to a geriatric set in Palm Springs. That was hardcore.

+1. Like a cross between Lennon's Imagine and the slow parts in Stairway to heaven. The band's passion and romantic attitude is evident. Pretty song.;)

In any case, I am 43 and love heavy stuff like Lamb of God and my 17 year old makes me listen to Day to Remember and Rise Against and heavier stuff. Some of it is too much for me, but many of these bands are really good musicians (drummers generally).

Having said that, the video the OP is referring to is crap. Noise.

1) It's not metal.
2) It's not for everyone.
3) It's not just for people who are 17 years old.

You're welcome to dislike it, I don't plan on picking up their album either, but it's got more in common historically with Minor Threat or Black Flag than it does with Black Sabbath or Judas Priest.

OP here. What made me post this video was the fact that there was 125 thumbs up and only one thumbs down.
That got my attention because that is an excellent You Tube review. I got to thinking, are there people who really think that their stage performance is so good that the good/bad ratio is 125 to 1? That's when it hit me that maybe I am just becoming an old fart. Note: Actually I am feeling better now after reading the TB'ers post and feel I am still in touch with reality with whats good and bad. Thank you guys for that.

Or maybe it's only fans of the band that would seek them out or waste time giving them negative feedback?

Much like TalkBass probably has a high percentage of bassists as members?

Wow, so many old people trying to get them offa their lawn :hiding:

I think the video leaves such a bad impression because the recording (as in, the audio) just plain sucks. Gave the band a listen after this and they're actually pretty cool for what they do, though I'm not so fond of the vocals and the blast beats can get overwhelming... But generally I like grindcore and the likes (Rotten Sound are killer) Thought the bassist got a cool grindy disto sound on recordings, at least the one I heard, and bad musicinship sounds different to me...

I actually found the stage antics to be quite funny with all the exaggarated movements by the guitar players.

My conclusion, yeah most people in here are indeed old and/or don't get it (snake tongues would call elitism also) :hiding:

Not that I see a problem in that, not like they force you to listen... But I'm a bit disappointed by all the smacktalking going on here. The comparisons to receptions of first gen rock are appropriate imo, at least in a sense.
