I need a little Talkbass brilliance here...

You guys are right. I was having a childish moment and thought it would be funny. Gonna let it go.

Totally up to you if you want to reply. Depends on what you are looking to get out of it.

On the one hand, a lot of jackholes continue to be jackholes because few people call them out on their s%*t. We all have met people that are unpleasant or rude, but continue to get away with it because people don't want to bother confronting them, or think it is easier to let it slide than get into an argument.

Best case, this guy did learn some humility and respect over the years and maybe is a decent person. Maybe you guys wind up being band mates and are the missing links to blazing the music scene. There have been stranger stories on E! behind the music. Lol.

Worst case is he still is a jackhole and bombards you with vitriol. (I assume you are not giving him any personal info, so he cannot personally meet you.)

Bottom line, it is up to you whether it is worth your time and effort. Taunting generally never ends well. But, sincere inquiry often is fine. If you do contact, keep us posted. I know a bunch of readers are interested...

You can't fix stupid. There's no glory in trying to insult another human being. What glory did he get?
Even if they fully deserve it and they insulted you first, the best case scenerio is that you lower yourself to their level to give other people a brief laugh.

You can be better than that.

Pretend you never had any correspondence with him (assuming he doesn't know what you look like).

Get in touch with him. Infiltrate what ever band he is in and become the bass player.
Get along with them. Hang out with them. Then, ever so slowly unravel the whole thing from the inside out. Chances are it would happen anyway.
Why not speed the process up?

Drop subtle hints. Inside hints that only he will get. Get him thinking. Make him question his own beliefs and abilities as a musician.
Then you become the BL.
It's your show then.
Mahahahahah! ( evil laugh)

I like your plan but think it a tad ambitious. The lazy man's play would be for OP to introduce himself via email as representing a boutique record label interested
in reissuing the old TELL catalogue. Keep it going for weeks and months, and oblige the dude to source all the old masters so that you can cut the fat check.
Keep it going till the tears run down your cheeks.

That would be nice as well.
Expanding on my original idea, I could volunteer myself to go in your place.
Once I become the BL I inform him I was sent by my. "employer" to destroy the band.
I then elaborately, painfully, go through a rather large and complex story on how, through my skills in espionage and subterfuge I gained all rights to his mediocre, yet large library of original music for my employer.

This diabolical plan is almost perfect! The only thing missing is to take a page from the movie Tin Men and sleep with his wife. That'll fix 'im!
