I Need a MM stingray 5 review ASAP!

I play Fender Jazz bass's for the most part......I recently bought a spector rebop 4 string czech rep model. I hate it! The thing has zero low end compared to the fender and I just cant play it. I need an upgrade.....you think the MM can give me the same low end thump with some more punchier mids? My old bass teacher is moving and offered me a MM Stingray 5 for $700. As far as I can gather it is a killer deal. He gigged with it for about a year in the late 90's and its been in his closet ever since.Let me know this deal will be gone by Saturday!

That's a good deal - $700, provided it's in good shape...

And yes - if you can't get thump and growl out of a EBMM SR 5, then you need to try a new hobby!

They rock. You shouldn't go wrong on a $700 Ray 5. Try it You'll probably like it.

Loved my SR5. I'm kind of pissed I sold it, and I'm dying for one of the new Classic 5ers.

My Stingray5 is my baby. I've been rocking it for thirteen or fourteen years now. It cured my bass GAS. If my house were on fire, and my family were safely outside, it would be the ONLY thing I would run back in for. I love it I love it I love it!

For $700 there should be no question. I defy anyone to pick up a bass as good as a stingray for $700. If you buy it and it's just not for you, you could probably sell it for $1000 without too much difficulty (assuming it's in good condition, of course).

Can't go wrong for $700...buy and give it a spin. Word of caution: the durn things can be heavy which may or may not be a deal-killer for you.

I started on a MIA Fender Jazz V, traded it for a SR5. Quite different all around. Much better build, more flexible tone, and a low B that isn't floppy. This is IMO.

The SR5 close enough to a Fender Jazz.....I don't think you'd be completely surprised.

I had to try out a Spector so I bought a Rebop on a GAS whim. While being a great bass, it was the opposite of what I like.

For the price, I'm sure you'd be happy with the SR5

If it is a 90's SR5 there is a good chance it will be an original Stingray 5 with Alnico pole pieces in the pickups which IMO makes it even more desirable. If you don't like it you could most certainly turn it over for a profit.

I have both a Stingray 4 and 5 and love them both.

Not much of a review but, I'll put it to you like this, I am an obsessive gear-fiend and have owned over two dozen basses. Of everything I've ever owned, the one I kept the longest was the Stingray 5. Its tone is so distinctive I can pick it out on records... much like the Rickenbackers, there is simply nothing else that sounds quite like it. I've owned:

The stingray 5 still holds a special place in my wandering heart.
