I need a recommendation for Grind/Powerviolence

This is an old thread, BUT, I've played in many PV/Grind bands and here's my favorite rig to use:

ESP LTD F series (doesn't matter how many strings)
Ibanez TS9dx (I switch between distortion modes as a "room tuner," which will automatically tell me which tones will boom"
MXR M87 Compressor
Boss TU-3

ALL OF THIS PLUGS INTO -

SWR SM900 in Biamp mode
Avatar 212 underneath for the bass
SWR Henry Jr. 4x8 on top (mid range punch, cuts through the mix without the mud)

You get alot of control with this setup, and you can quickly determine where the "boomy" notes are in the room. Keep grinding and don't let the man get you down

I play atmospheric doom crossed with crusty grind elements. For overdrive I recommend a SansAmp Tech 21 Bass driver and for Fuzz I recommend the Malekko Diabolik. I play with a pick and sometimes slap. The Diabolik retains the low end and clarity even when tremolo picking the strings on bass during fast parts over blast beats. The Sans Amp is a bit pricey but worth it and the Diabolik is really affordable.

As a new owner of one of these, I'm shocked nobody has said the Idiot Box Blower Bass. I've owned the Darkglass B7K and would take this any day. I'd also agree with earlier statements that the overdrive with the right EQ and voicing can kill. I've recently picked up a Bluberry Bass Overdrive (Bearfoot) and there are some pretty nasty low-gain overdrive voicings in there. I'm not a big follower of this genre, but I just did a speedy spin through youtube, and think I'm in the ballpark.

... I'm looking for something that sounds really raw, and harsh. I also think the ability to blend would a huge plus. I want the notes to be discernible while still sounding like they are going through a woodchipper. ...

Never heard of PowerViolence before today, but from what you say above and based on what you've got/had/tried (not sure why people are suggesting the stuff you've already said wasn't cutting it) may I suggest...

The Great Destroyer!

I heard one of these and instantly fell in love with it, and I don't do any Grrrind, Crispy Creme, Mehtal, Broodcore, Speedvomiting etc, so take my suggestions with some rock-salt.

Other suggestions I think fit the bill:

- Rusty Box, as mentioned

- Unpleasant Surprise AND/OR Four Eyes

- Battering Ram (2 flavours), or the new Black Sheep rack preamp— 6 parallel overdrives, each focusing on a different frequency band — serious cutting capabilities I would think. Buffered effects loop runs parallel to, or in series with, OD section. FX loop before or after OD. Master has bass and treble controls and a clean blend.

...
also: ignore b3Ks, they are nowhere near as good as Rats or Rusty Boxes for this application.

Fixed. ;)

Anyway. An old thread, what did the OP wind up with...? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?
