I need another bass

I play two fairly "close to expensive" basses. One of which has a certain finish that dings REALLY easily. Me being a perfectionist would like to keep it in good condition so I don't want to lug it around all the time. I'm looking for a beater bass. Preferably a P-Bass in the $300 range. I've been looking at the Matt Freeman Sig Squier for $379.99. Although, it's a little over my budget it'll stay in the back of mind. Open to other brands not just Squier/Fender.
I play pretty much anything and everything (except metal, nothing against it though)

After 35 years of playing Im at the point where all of my basses are inexpensive beaters.
That doesnt mean they dont sound good, I just dont have to worry about them getting dinged or scratched or whatever.
They're all Squiers btw.

If you go pre-owned, some of that "beating" will have already been done for you! In that league:

- Used Fender MIM Standard Precision (I've seen several locally go for $300 or less)
- Used Yamaha BB Series (gives you the P/J thing at a surprisingly affordable price point)

seriously, how could you not have gas all the time on here? ...

My opinion is to weigh out your current gear on things like: rarity, collectability, availability, replacability. If your instrument is 1/50,000 or more, just play the hell out of it. If it's really expensive, have it covered on your insurance. Play the best instrument you can, weighing out all of these things. I'd rather play on equipment that inspires me, than play on something that just gets me by, because I'm afraid it will suffer damage or loss...

If you can afford $300 cash, you can surely afford $400 on credit.

Also, once you get the L-2000, it will become your primary bass.

That second one I posted is the same price for 5 strings, $400.

There's a used 50's Classic Series Precision on Charlotte NC Craigslist for $500 (no affiliation).
If you like the neck profile, it would be five bills well-spent, as it is the last Precision you'll ever need.

I would go with a Hohner B2 series. They are built like a tank, play great, are light as a feather and are inexpensive.

Great neck that's on my 2011 MIM Precision now. No tone knob and a chrome pickguard are the two downsides of a pretty nice bass though.
