I need help with decoding this bass

I found a Squier bass on Craigslist and I want to know what year it is. The serial number on it is E972794. Oh, and its made in Korea.

If it follows Fender's usual pattern, it's an '89 (First two digits...E=Eighty, 9=9)

Well, that would be for a MIA Fender. A Squier is not a MIA Fender. Your best bet is to email Squier Customer Support and ask for help.

Could someone tell me a website where I can type in the serial number and it will tell me when and where its made?

I don't know if Squier has anything like that on their web site. There may be a Squier forum out there that could help though.

I would guess late 80's. Squier made some showmaster strat-type guitars with the same logo around that time. They were aiming for the hair metal players of the day.

That's a HM series squier, which came out in '89 and didn't last very long. The Korean E serials seem to have started where the Japanese serials left off, but it's not really possible to date them exactly. Serials starting with an S were quite common on Korean instruments during this period as well.
