I need opinions

My singer started singing with the inception of the band I am currently in. He started off trying to teach himself and sounded pretty bad. He has taken lessons since then and i think he sounds better but not amazing. The issue at hand is whether or not he is flat. Some say he's awful while others say he's not bad. Just curious what other musicians thought so I'll post the link to our myspace but we only have one song up currently. Also if you have any comments on the bassin' let me know ;) thanks.

To me, it was just fine. Pretty good actually. I didnt hear him singing flat in that song. One good rule to remember and this is just because I noticed alot of reverb in his vocal mix. Its Ok to run reverb in the mains or in the recording, but use little ,if any, reverb in his monitor. Reverb in a singers monitor hides being flat to a certain extent from his own ear. If you get what I mean.

Yeah, he's a tad flat. But not too bad. With a little more practice he'll probably get it. I've heard much much worse. And in fact he only misses a few notes here and there so it's not like he's flat all the time. Maybe he needs to sit down at a piano and work out his melody a little better.

GIVEN-It's impossible to 'judge' talent from one song, but he sounds fine. Needs to work on his vibrato for the long notes, but that comes with practice. Maybe work a little growly edge in there now and then. How long has he been on main vocals? Throw in a backup or two for vocal punctuation..he's just inexperienced is my guess. You guys are young and off to a good start, keep rockin,it'll click.

....Oh yeah, the bass needed to come up in that track :D

Some peoples ears are more sensitive to pitch than others. To me, yes it sounded fairly flat. If he can't tell that he's flat, then he's not going to be able to get any better, but if he manages to train his ears to be more sensitive, then I think he's got a lot of potential.

S.P.

Def not the worst singer i've heard. His style seems to suit the song well. I don't really hear a problem.
How does he sound live though? Sometimes it's difficult to sing in a high volume situation. Remember, many, if not most casual listeners, only listen to the vocals. If the vocals aren't right they are going to think the band stinks.

It sounded fine to me. A few slightly flat bits but, in my opinion, certainly not disgustingly awful. He does need more performance time/experience, but if his style is what you want I'd hang on to him as you could do a LOT worse:

"Vocals" come in at 0.30...

(yeah; I never miss an opportunity to post this)
