I'm looking for medium funk (that's the term used on the sheet music usually). Maybe some fusion elements as well. Here's what kind I'm looking for. My taste is too limited and I want to explore it further.
Remember, jazz funk, not full out funk.

Is Galactic out of their hip hop phase? That wasn't very interesting...and they're a great band.
Progger and Snarky Puppy are a couple of current bands in the genre. Rudder too, as already mentioned - the OP might also check into acid jazz in that case...
I made a thread on this that ended up hitting 9 pages and is so loaded with tunes that I continue to reference it for more and more records. One band that I have really gotten into as a result is Spare Parts. They are nasty. Anyway, here is the link : Your favorite unappreciated funk/fusion jazz records?

You might also check out Andy Galore. Maybe the most under-the-radar player in NYC now that Tim LeFebvre got the Tedeschi-Trucks gig.
