I Need some suggestions: P bass Strings

I'm wondering if your neck has some kind of intonation issue. I have two Precisions strung with Chromes, one light set and one medium set. Tension is not an issue on either bass, at all. No reason why a medium set of Chromes should feel like bridge cables unless your set up is off (or you've got tiny hands).
They feel like bridge cables because at 224 lbs of tension they are higher than most I play and high in general....

I dig pressurewounds, and Dr lo-Riders for that matter....I just thought they sounded best on a Jazz. This P-bass has upper/mid forward pickups, so a string with similar characteristics can be too much. I thought that of Super Brights great for a darker scooped Jazz...too much on this P bass.

Over 25 years I've tried Rotosound swing bass and flats, Ernie Ball slinkys, D'addario XL and Chromes, La Bella flats, Fender flats, DR Hi Beam, Sun Beam and Low Riders and Dunlop Superbrights...

The winner is Fender 7250 (105-45) for a P bass, every day. IMHO.

Re-engineered Flatwound Strings: We also have a newly re-engineered version of our [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. These are similar to our previous Black Label strings but have improved tone, feel, and consistency. If you are looking for a string with a true vintage sound and feel that retains a strong fundamental to sit well in the mix, these are strings you definitely want to try out. We have our first shipment in stock now and available [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].

I do a fair amount of that kind of playing and have a recommendation for your P-Bass.

If you haven’t changed out the tone cap, do so. I very much enjoy some paper-in-oil caps, although the orange Sprague ones are fine. Anything is better than that chicklet that comes with the bass. The response of the chicklet is quite binary. The moment you engage it, all the tone goes away, leaving you with virtually no useful range.

I’d recommend swapping it out for something better. Betcha that’ll get you there with the strings you’ve been using.

What I really like is when run with the tone wide open they sound bright enough to cut and sound balanced and as you roll back you can go to a great clean and clear blues and country material. They do take a couple weeks to break in but then they can really last. Just my opinion. Everyone's taste is different. If you want give them another try!

+3 for DR's excellent Pure Blues. I got tired of waiting for my usual SS rounds to arrive in the mail and picked up a set of these at a local store. I don't care for any of the other nickel sets that I've tried in the past, but I love these on my P. Nice tone, nice tension, and nice under the fingers.
