I Present the IdiotBox Effects's Blower Box

Well the blowerbox is a real winner! I've owned a rat king and an OFD to reference the rat type distortion and the blowerbox IMO blows those away. The low-end is smooth not to boomy or muddy. And I like the relationship the knobs have with one another! Again I can't notice any low-end loss at all and you can even add a ton of low-end too. It definitely lives up to the hype IMO. I haven't played with it in a band setting yet though! Great Pedal!!!

I agree totally with your review I think it's dead on.I had a modified Rat with the LM308 chip and the Blower Box to me is such a smoother pedal but in defense of the almighty Rat it wasn't designed for bass like this pedal was and I think it's tough to find a etched pedal that's this good for a little more than a hundred bucks.

I have an stock '86 Small box RAT (LM308) and I feel similar about the design for bass. Back in the day it was truly about the best you could do for a stomp. I have been able to get great sounds on record with it and it sounds great with an SVT. But I ended up changing my entire rig recently and it does not fit so well anymore. Too thin and the filter just can't get the bump back as it used to. I love the RAT sound on bass. Kim Gordon's Mesa era RAT tone was sick but not as great for my purposes. So I figured the BB is a win win. Also, I am a Voivod fan. So… No tar and feathers. Just stoked I found out about it while in the market for something similar but new and actually tuned for a bass. :bassist:

Hey another thing you can do with the blowerbox is use it as slightly dirty preamp. It does low gain pretty well actually and with the gain all the off you can still use the eq.. it is slightly dirty still though I don't think it's doing completely clean, great pedal! This one is unbeatable for the price, just sayin! :)

Definitely want to try out one of these after reading all the praise. I love my rat tail but I wouldn't mind some more low end. Might have to buy one after payday if they get more in stock.

Not sure if you saw all the things I've written about it but I would pick the BB over the rat king I have any day. They are both great pedals, but I feel the BB has a couple more important, to me anyway, string points than the RK does. The low end retention/addition is one of them. I'll be the first one to admit it, Ive never been too concerned with losing my low end when my dirt was engaged. But I've found and come to realize, I play dirty almost all the time. I had some musician friends come out to see my band one night and the only real critique they had of my playing and sound was I had quite the absence of low end. Now it may have been the FOH and how he was running the board that night because I remember all the bands that went up before us the bassists sounded boomy as all hell so maybe he changed it up when we got up there, but it def made me rethink my setup. So I started dialing more low end back in and still have it today. So now low end retention through effects is more important to me than it used to be. And with the BB on my board, I'll never have to worry about low end loss with my dirt. It's awesome.

It's funny I've tried it that way the other day and you're absolutely right.
