I rely on my V1 Blower Box to provide the face shreddery, and it delivers. No FET boost necessary.

haha yeah, MAtt is really good like that. I have heard a couple guys say it took him forever to get back to them but I always thought he responded very quickly and has always been super cool with me. Some just slip through the cracks I suppose. Especially if youre getting hundreds of emails a day.
So anyway, I havent posted outside the Breeders in a long time. I wanted to post here to show some more love for my BB.
I have the John K FET boost in mine. I installed it in about half an hour. With a couple emails back and forth with John (he was very gracious about explaining some things to me thank God) about grounding. I suck at grounding haha. But I love the BB. Its the one dirt pedal that has stayed on my board since I got it. I dont use it all the time, but when I do, man does it make the song/part. I love the sag it has going on. I love its Rat qualities and I love how it rips right into the mix!! Brutal and smooth all at once.
I usually run mine like this
bass: around 2 oclock
treble: around 9 oclock
gain: usually around 2 oclock (right around the point it has that OD turning into dist)
output: to the room
Having that boost in it really helped me get it to where I wanted to be in the mix. I was having the same volume issues some others mentioned as well (I also have v1) and with that boost mod, it kills. No issues whatsoever with output. I used to keep the treble very low, almost off, but after I had it for a while I found that dialing some treble in helped me a lot in the mix. It may sound sorta shrill by myself, but in the mix it just sleights. My band is actually recording a track right now for another EP were putting out. One of the songs is called Bubble and I use the BB through the whole thing. Check it out below. Its live, but youll get the idea.
I noticed that on the idiot box effects website, there's an etched version available. what exactly is the etched version?

I know, that was my point - I have one of the old ones but don't think there is anything that needs to be solved unless you are trying to use it as a clean preamp with the gain all the way down!!
There are two versions of the pedal available to buy and two pictured on the site. This is the etched one:

The etched is the standard version, the other one is a limited colour version.
New version or v.2 dont have the volume issue on v1, so no mods needed.
If you have bad GAS, then I don't recommend watching the Excane vid of the even better (or equally as good but slightly different) Static Fuzz. I chose that one over the BB since it seemed to have a thicker overall tone, but I too am wanting a BB, as well as a lot of the other Idiotbox offerings. I told Matt in an email that I've been collecting pedals since 1993 and have not been this excited about a company in many many years. My Static Fuzz has not been turned off since i got it 3 weeks ago, and am now having a hard time finding a place for my clean signal. Yes, I love the pedal that much.Just yesterday I decided I needed a new distortion pedal, and spent my first couple hours at work researching. After looking at a few options, I came across the Blower Box, and was intrigued. Once I read through a good portion of this thread and watched the available YouTube videos, I decided to pull the trigger. I checked out the recommended dealers on the website, and found one in NY doing free shipping, and got it sent out same day. Before yesterday I had never even heard of this pedal, and if tracking is correct, I will have my own tomorrow! Going to be a FUN weekend. I too was tempted on the limited edition green one, but the standard etched one is just cool looking, and probably a little more durable. I thought I was done with pedals, and like many others on this feed, you all gave me a bad case of GAS that only the BB could alleviate. Thanks a lot!

I use the SF with the gain knob just above slight breakup. I don't use it as an extreme pedal, although I love the fact that I have that extra gas in the tank if I need it. For me, it sounds best used sparingly, and used that way, its similar to the BB in that it responds to dynamics and fingering very well. Funny how different we feel about this pedal. To me, the Excane video sold me on it and the BB didn't sound as good.Sorry but I just don't hear any good sounds in that Static Fuzz demo. Is it more musical and less compressed and messy at lower gain settings, or are is that just the sound your going for?
Blower Box is killer though, I love how out responds to pick playing at low-medium gain levels.

I like his demos just for the fact that he turns knobs and gives you a great idea of the overall capabilities of a pedal.Don't get me started on Mr E. His videos annoy me and dissuade me as much as they influence my GAS. No explanation of what's going on. Frequent aimless knob turning to settings of little interest. There are good moments too, but it is usually a mixed bag.

I wish he would do a demo of the Dungeonmaster. I've got one and love it. I'd be interested to hear his take on it.
