I think I’m a string hoarder

Ok, I need TB to talk some sense into me. I recently got a new bass and as per SOP I had to get a new set of strings for my initial setup. I mean, what kind of savage does a setup with factory strings? Long story short, the bass is set to my liking with a set of DR Hi-Beams, which is exciting because I’ve never played a set of them until now.

So now I’ve got a basically unplayed set of strings sitting on my work bench. My initial thought was to stick them in a ziplock bag and save them as backups. Then I realized I’ve got every set of old bass strings I’ve ever had in a drawer in bags!

I don’t know why I don’t throw them away. I guess it’s because I read somewhere that dead bass strings are cool and maybe during the zombie apocalypse I might need to boil them and get some extra mileage out of them?

I don’t know. That’s where you come in, TB community. Should I keep the random set of factory strings that came on my new squier or just toss them in the trash?

Got a local school with a band with a bass guitar? They could probably use them.

This is a Godsend for me. I have 1" diameter dowel sticks with used string sets looped over them like ring-toss, and I've been fretting over what to do with them. This will give me n opportunity to pay them forward.

I put my used sets on FB marketplace. $10 a set or $100 takes them all. About the only thing I get is; guys asking me if I have any flats---and asking me a bunch of questions and wasting my time. I don't mind rapping with them, but yea, I have like 50 sets of roundwounds in the original boxes, with two months of use.

I just sold about 30 used sets on FB marketplace for $100. The guy did not even have a bass, but played in a garage band, in the 60's and 70's. He said he wants to start playing again, but his wife is sick, with dementia. I was a bit confused; he said, he was going to put them on a bunch of "string instruments"---- I did not ask any questions---I think he may have had early alzheimers too.
