I think I found a 58 P Bass

You might think that's nuts for what is admittedly a butt-ugly axe, but I can guarantee there's a whole bunch of folks who think that it is worth that much, and who will pay it if the bass were offered to them.

I speak from experience -- I rescued and refinned a 59P in similar condition, and was later offered another 59P (bad refin in black) by a very respected dealer in LA, that I passed on due to my finances at the time...

Thanks for the kind words, BTW, but what I really want to see pics of YOUR '59.

Plus, your 59 P might inspire Thor to go out and dig a few tons of quahaugs and cut back on the visits to "Slice of Heaven" in order to snag this lovely torso of a storm cast relic. :D :D :D

Heck, I am too old to bullrake quahaugs, and I don't do
'Slice of Heaven'. I do need to cut back on the 'Gansset'
and the Oyster Bar though. (Inside joke as Mr. Carr's ancestor
has a street named for him in my little village in RI and Jim
knows the local haunts.)

I still have a date to play this bad boy on Tuesday and I am
bringing my buddy from The Bassment who is a total P head
as well. Will have a report for y'all then.

Well since you brought it up, the Narragansett label was
resurrected by a local businessman 4 or 5 years ago. I
don't tell anyone, but I think it is brewed by Heileman
or whatever their name is somewhere around Rochester NY.

However, The 'Gansett' I referred to is the Narragansett Cafe,
which is the only local place that supports live music, 3 bands
a week, many in the blues genre. Good place.

And best of all, it sounds like a cannon. She's my Number One bass. I play other basses for certain gigs where the bandleader wants a specific look or I need a different tuning (I play a lot of gigs where I use a BEAD bass) but if I can, I play this one....

The story has been on here before also, and I truly wish I had a BEFORE pic, but this was 'Stage 2' mid 70s - strip and natural.

Cool find and post.
I own a first year, 1982, 1958-reissue neck and what interested me about this is the decal. On the reissue decals paper, not the lettering itself, the the lettering sits on doesn't have the cut up between the F & E or as deep at cut up on the F itself. The bottom of the decal paper itself is cut square or straight on the reissue.
Also I thought both pickup should have the raised pole pieces that would lye beneath the A & D strings. But on this one it looks like only one pickup has it. ....

In 1971 I was offered a 1958 for $350. I had $250 and the guy wouldn't wait another week for the rest. Next guy who walked in offered him $400. The guy was so happy he let him walk out the door with the bass to go get the money. LOL..... And you guessed it the guy didn't return with the money or the bass. ..... At least I would have paid him. ....
