Quick update, it got sold for 4500 cash, local deal, no

Yes, I did. Neck was solid as a rock. Sounded great. No
buzz or anything weird in the pots. I would have loved to
own it, but it's waaaaay out of my budget.

By way of consolation (GAS without acquisition is love unrequited, and all that poetic stuff...), I've got a '57 in my closet. It looks just like the one on the back page of Bass Player this month. NFS under any circumstances! (That's not where I'm going with this.)
Every once in a while I take it out and play it a bit. The neck is fine--and it's a nostalgia trip for me, seeing how I bought it in the mid 70s and gigged it for a bit. When I do that, it reminds me how much I prefer my modern basses (a couple Lakie Skylines, and a couple MTDs). They play better, they sound better, and they're way more versatile.
See, I'm an old cat, and I am vintage--older than that bass, even. The vintage pieces are cool for being vintage. But the modern basses are far better tools for making music, IMHO.
