Those basses have no appeal to me. Therefor I do not believe in them.

While I have certainly not been silent in my opinion about the lack of appeal boutique basses hold for me, and in general have not been at all complementary about their appearance, I do have to say that this type of comment is over the top and uncalled for. If I describe in generalities things I dislike about a class of instrument and one who owns such an instrument determines that I'm talking about his possession, that's his problem. I wasn't addressing him personally. This, however, is unseemly.

It's different to joke about the fact that some men marry ugly women than it is to joke about your feeling that a woman a man has married is ugly. Would you go out of your way to tell that man that you find his wife to be ugly?

There's an old saying that goes, "It's a poor craftsman that blames his tools."

This is a quote many on Talk Bass have adopted, and while I don't disagree, I would just add that a true craftsman makes sure to have the best tools for the job. Where things get all muddled up is deciding what the best tool for the job of bass player might be.

Wow. Really? That's what you say when someone posts pics of their pride and joy? Are you the guy who says "wow, ugly baby" when someone shows you a picture of their newborn child?

True statement. However, noone is saying that inexpensive basses limit them. We are just saying, since there is a choice, why not get something that is comfortable? If we are going to be holding a tool for 8 hours a day, we might as well get one with a comfort-grip.
