found the cure for cancer, global warming,and male pattern baldness. These things rock fellas. Step right up and don't be shy, cause you will not believe your eyes. Let's back up the hype meter to oh let's say 339. What do ya say? ;) :D

I got to the play the Mark Bass stuff at Guitar Center over the weekend. The heads sound good, the cabs not so much. The only thing going for Mark Bass is the weight of the gear. I own an Ernie Ball HD-500 which was made by Mark Bass pre Mark Bass and swear by it for it's clarity and tone.

If weight is not an issue almost anything in it's price range sounds just as good and Ampeg cabs sound a heck of alot better for less or the same money.

I personally like pairing up the Ernie Ball with a Mesa 4x10 bass cab.

Amen. Can all the "i just got my markbass/GC blows at life" threads be combined into one?

this is not said out of bitterness--I've read them all--there's just a lot of them.

Well I just got my Markbass at GC...and I'm good with it, both ways.

I know there's alot of talk about Markbass out there now, I actually can't believe it myself. If I hadn't stumbled upon them, quite accidentally, some time ago, I'd be wondering about all the talk as well. But I like most of MB and have since way before there were any threads around here.

I bought the CMD102P. It suits me and my music. It is light weight, for sure. I do think MB is on the leading edge of technology. They're not the only ones, but for the price point. I'd say they're one of the best.

And as for my GC, well I've been a customer there for about 8 yrs now and a good % of the staff have been there from the beginning. They are great guys. Bend over backwards for you and no BS. I know that's not true for the entire staff, I'm sure, but they must have a good Mgr that knows customer service and keeps the staff happy. Believe me, I know what that's all about. MB & GC get a thumbs up from me.

I'll let you know if my MB cures baldness...I've got my fingers crossed.

I just think MB is getting the attention because they DO sound very good for their small size. I absolutely love my old 75lb(guessing here) Trace amp, and will never sell it, but i and others who have heard mine, think it sounds as good. Genz Benz , with the little NEO-PAK hybrid is in the game also. I bet, very soon, you will see all the big guns making powerful little heads.The technology is here with lightweight power supplys. Markbass just got the jump on everyone in terms of power, portability,availability, and an eyecatching paint sceme!

:smug: I wondered how long it would be before I saw a thread like this ;) .

I, for one, have been guilty of adding to "the hype" about MB gear for some time now and maybe it's time to do some penance :hmm: .

There was a thread in the "Bassists" section of the forum recently, about "over-rated bass players". The post that I made there, suggested that a lot of the "top" players were actually "over-rated", thanks to over-enthusiastic fans. Now, I find myself part of that whole "hyping" syndrome, where Markbass products are concerned.

It's just hard not to want to spread the word to others, when you find something that you believe is truly worth knowing about. I really hope that people like me (:( ) don't stir up a lot of anti-Markbass sentiment, amongst those who are still waiting for the chance to try this brands' equipment for themselves.

The more hype it gets now, the more likely it is to disappoint! :hmm:

Just for the record, I've only ever owned bass amps by Ampeg, Hartke, Trace Elliot and Markbass, so I'm not in a position to compare it to everything that's out there (I'm not TomBowlus ;) ). I would, however, say that the Markbass LMII is my personal favourite of the four, for reasons of tone and ease of use alone (regardless of the weight/size advantages).

Even if MB gear can't offer a cure male baldness, it could be a key factor in reducing hernias amongst bass players ;) ! That's got to be worth some praise, surely?

Some of that is also maybe due to people who don't bother to notice that there are ALREADY current threads going about whatever brand, so they just add another one to the fray.

Markbass came up with packages that obviously combine good pricing with performance and features that pleases a lot of people - all the more notable that they are small and very light. Not only do bass players begin to see that itsw now optional to schlep a lot of big heavy stuff around, but manufacturers and dealers are going to see the advantages of lower shipping costs and truck space saved. That and the competitive sales advantages are going to make R&D on lightweight equipment all the more attractive.

What's this big "lightweight" invention. Thunderfunk and Eden are two manufacturers who have heads less than 20 lbs. Now if you can reduce the weight of a cabinet from 80 lbs or 90 lbs down to 40 lbs or 50 lbs as is being done by Epifani and others that is worthy of discussion. But really a 16 lb head seems to be a non issue. So you reduce it to 8 lbs and suddenly the transporting of your bass gear is now manageable? I just don't see this as a big deal. When it gets to the point where a 20 lb head is too much to move it's time to switch to harmonica. I still drive my car to gigs. When I start riding a bicycle to gigs I guess I'll look for a 3 lb head. The most noticeable thing I see about the Markbass is the color choice and I don't like it visually. Ok I admit it, all the hype here is turning me off to the product. As do other gear threads that become the rage here. Over saturation. ;) :D

Markbass amps have gotten extremely popular rather quickly. I tried one in a GC and thought it was fine. I suppose if weight was an issue for me, I would be more inclined to join the Markbass Army.

They may not be able to cure cancer, but apparantly they can sound just like a tube amp with the turn of one knob! Some kind of potentiometer made by the Elves from "Lord of the Rings" must be in there. ;)

Seriously though, there is something to the hype. You don't see many new products take off like Markbass has. At least not in the space of one year. If these things prove to be as durable & reliable as they are yellow, they might become an amp that backline companies have to stock.

Ah. But if you can shave weight on both heads/preamps/amps, and cab, and still meet some people's tonal requirements, then you will make some people very happy.

I agree hype gets to be a bit much, but I don't find a lot of Markbass hype to be any more of a problem than any other hype. Anyway, it's alll good anyway if people are gettin' some good bassin' happenin', right?

It's the flavor of the day. That's what forums are for! Gear comes in waves of the end-all be-all. SX basses, Avatar cabs, Dark Star pickups... everybody and their brother loves them (and most people don't even own them!).

Seems to me that alot of bassplayers suffers from tendonitis and others things from time to time, so the weight must definetly be an important factor here. When I was 20 this was not a problem, but now I`m always looking to downsize my rig, so I can be able to play at all.
The MB gear also sounds great..
I can understand the hype, but I can also see that MB isn`t for everyone
