I think there is something wrong with my bass. I play a Marcus Miller Jazz bass, by I have noticed lately that it does not sound like Marcus Miller when I play it. I think there might be a factory defect or something.

TROLL! You would need to BE Marcus Miller to sound like Marcus Miller.

It doesn't matter how much of his gear you get, you are not going to sound like him by just getting his gear. So much of the sound anyone produces is in your hands - how you fret your instrument, how you pluck the strings, where you pluck the strings, how you mute, etc. You may be able to study his technique and come close, but you are never going to sound just like Marcus Miller, Jaco, Paul McCartney, John Entwhistle, Jack Cassady, Chris Squire, etc., because you are not them.

You have to give it time to break in. I mean that hat isn't used to your head, yet. and, I'll bet you didn't soak it in single malt scotch overnight before putting it on.

This is interesting, I have a Stanley Clarke Alembic, and it sounds exactly like him. I think he builds them himself.
