Only Fender P bass truly sounds like a P bass. Buy anything else and you'll still be waiting for that P bass sound. MIA or MIM. Don't settle for less. Cut corners and you're back to looking to satisfy yourself.

I love my Reverend Mercalli 5 more than my 70 P/J that I have had and played for over 40 years.
I paid 700 shipped with gig bag used for the Reverend and play it as my main ax now!
There is one on here for sale right now.
Mine has Rosewood board and the one for sale in the classifieds has maple board and I prefer Rosewood only reason I would not pick up that one too.
Great instruments. Passive with 5 piece bolt on neck. Has the best B string around on a 34" scale Passive bolt on neck bass! (and one extra fret too)
Easy to play and Great feeling necks.
Highly recommend them.

The Vintera P pickups sound more like a Fender Pbass than Fender Am Pro P Vmod pickup.
It’s frustrating sometimes. I’ve never understood fenders product range logic. I would think basses like a 5 string player series p bass or a Player series fretless 5 string jazz would sell reasonably well but hey what do I know.
Chiming in again because I've been playing my very gently-used, 10-year-old Fender Precision 5 this morning.
The neck on this bass has been dead straight since the day I bought it new. I've gone from Fender nickels with the exposed-core B and E, to Ernie Ball Cobalt flatwounds, to DR Hi-Beams. The only adjustment I've ever made was raising the action on the B and E slightly when I changed from exposed-core to regular strings. The truss rod remains untouched.
The quality, fit and finish of Fender basses from late 2007 on is right up there with anything I've played, including most of the high-end copies that cost two or three times as much. You really can't go wrong with one of these.

Agreed. My P5 is 2018 and perfect. Sounds as a Precision should l. V- Mods are fantastic in every way for my needs.
Just my two cents - take it or leave it.
I have never regretted spending an additional few dollars to get the bass (or the amp or the cab) that I truly wanted. I have often regretted not spending an additional few dollars and settling for something not truly what I wanted. My last bass was $2500 (likely much more than that currently), and it was all that I dreamed of. I would replace it if something happened to her.
I have a few $600-1000 basses that I would not replace.
Life is short. Get what you want (if you can afford it).

Whatever it is it is not a P in any way shape form hint or imagination. It's like the "Anti-P". Maybe it's a kidney stone. Or a lowercase b.
