Yes. My MIM Classic 60's Jazz sounded and played better than my MIA '75 RI and Hot Rodded Jazz.

Japanese Fenders--Geddy Lee or Sting or Aerodyne or Lyte--all very nice & won't give you scoliosis.

Yes. They're equal to or better, depending on type and model. Definitely no worse.

A USA on Ebay/Craiglist can be had for $500-$600 if you're patient. And MIJ, depending on model, can be cheaper. You can ask them all to weigh. Most will oblige.

I'd say the model I've found to be consistently lighter is the RW Fenders.

I thought about that for a second...and even the poor MIM Fenders I've played didn't sound terrible. Generally, the bad time I've found was the early and mid-90's, if any.
