I Want A Short Scale Bass......

Will one of you guys with considerable resources buy one of these already so we can hear some sound clips?

How did the Ursa 2 Jr. sound stock? I would probably switch to flats right away (prefer the feel) would I really need to do the pups?

They sound ok, not bad for cheap pups -like any J style, there's some hum if both volumes are not set at about the same level. I've had thoughts of replacing them with something humbucking, haven't really thought this through yet. But it's serviceable as is - the basic instrument itself is actually pretty well put together. You most definitely would want to change the strings ... that's one area where they're cutting corners for sure, which is a good choice on their part - people frequently want to switch strings anyway, so no point selling this economy model with good ones. For the price SX is one of the better deals out there. And regardless of price, the Ursa 2 Jr fits me, so I'd actually have paid a good bit more than what they ask for them.

Don't know where the OP is located, but if there is an interest in a discontinued Squier Mustang bass, there is one hanging in my local music store. I have grabbed it and thought about it a few times, but finances keep me from pulling the trigger. I haven't found anywhere else that they are still available. Have been hoping to walk in and see a discounted price on the tag, but no luck so far...still $279.

I may very well be interested in that! What color? I'm in Cincinnati, Ohio, shipping shouldn't be an issue. Let me know.

It is in Lake Charles, Louisiana, located between Houston and New Orleans. The music store is Lake Charles Music. They have a website, the owner is Ed Fruge. It is the 3 tone burst. If you have any questions, Ed is very helpful and answers any emails personally. I don't know if they ship, but it doesn't hurt to ask...Bass looks like the picture in my next post...

Thanks, just sent an email to him.

Cool! Hope you are able to work out a deal...wish I had the cash for it.

FWIW I watched a MIJ Geddy Lee sunburst at the same store for almost a year, unable to purchase but that didn't stop me from drooling on it when I went. Someone finally bought it a few months ago, not sure if they ended or increased my agony!

Hey All,

Just wanted to provide an update....got a used Squier VM Mustang from the local CL listing. Its the burst color, like the one in post #50. I just received a set of La Bella "1954" Flatwounds/Thru Body version. I'll try to get them on in the next day or two and give my impressions. I'll post a pick once I get the new strings on her.

New strings are on. Wow what a size difference. Old "E" string is the same size as current "A" string. Now running 052/073/095/110.
