I want another bass ..

My Precision is wearing flats but I want my P with rounds also......

So I need another P for rounds or something else for flats...

@+#3.... I am thinking maybe something short scale for the flats. Possibly hollow body ...

Crap... Thought I was done with this...
See you actually need another P, and a short scale. You just don't realize it yet, but you will 🤣

Have you ever tried to mix strings : flats, rounds and tapes ? (There might be a reason why people don't often do it)
When it has been done you will stay with flats and will save money.

You're never done with this... ;)

Having a P with flats and a P with rounds is just the responsible thing to do. And then you can get other basses in other styles for other strings. Or you can do the bass-akwards thing i do and find a set of strings you like and then decide to buy a bass that goes well with the strings. Might be putting the cart before the horse; might be a great excuse to buy another bass... which i haven't done since summer. 😳

Rounds on a PB, a highly underrated experience. Me,? I been gigging playing Motown, Stax, Muscle Shoals for the last 50 years using rounds on a PB. Nobody has ever questioned my choice.

My advice is put a set of rounds on the PB and leave it at that.

You want a good bass or a great bass?
Plenty of P bass alternatives these days, but only one super P bass that I'm aware of.
Reverend Dub King.

Vintera II... Might be an option for a P with rounds. Mustang or a Viola for a short scale maybe
Upon further review, The Player II might be more to my liking. Its quite similar to the Vintera II but does not have the allthread saddles that I don't care for. I am firmly planted on the fence regarding the question of a 2nd P vs something entirely different than I have now though. I am making a point of minimizing overlap between instruments but the flat vs round probably qualifies as a pretty significant difference. Perhaps I could do something different with the pickup as well but not sure that is necessary

I like the idea of a short scale / hollow body type of instrument but I am not sure If I would use it in the real world for the music I do. I guess I'll never know if I don't have one available to use. I think a Starfire maybe? Jack Cassidy perhaps but that is 34"

Then the Reverend Dub King (30" scale) is for you, and way cooler looking, too. Is there any place that you can try one near you? The MM-looking pickups gives it a wide range of sound, especially for a passive bass. I'm only selling mine because I have too many basses cluttering up my dining room (along with a double bass), and I hardly get a chance to use it. I may be talking myself into keeping it; I had it packed up and was ready to take it to my local consignment shop, but after picking it up again, I am on the fence...
