Have you ever tried to mix strings : flats, rounds and tapes ? (There might be a reason why people don't often do it)
When it has been done you will stay with flats and will save money.

It's a thought, to get rid of the twang on the D and G strings and bring them tonally nearer to E and A.

Upon further review, The Player II might be more to my liking. Its quite similar to the Vintera II but does not have the allthread saddles that I don't care for. I am firmly planted on the fence regarding the question of a 2nd P vs something entirely different than I have now though. I am making a point of minimizing overlap between instruments but the flat vs round probably qualifies as a pretty significant difference. Perhaps I could do something different with the pickup as well but not sure that is necessary

I like the idea of a short scale / hollow body type of instrument but I am not sure If I would use it in the real world for the music I do. I guess I'll never know if I don't have one available to use. I think a Starfire maybe? Jack Cassidy perhaps but that is 34"

I have 3 precisions, nothing else works for me. The Epiphones always tempt me, Embassy and Jack Casady.

I hear ya. I'd like a Precision in Olympic White, Daphne Blue (rw-boards), that see-thru white wash with a gold PG & maple neck. But, I'm happy with my 2010 Precision V and my USA Dimension 5. That Dimension has been a surprise as it has competed well with the P-Bass as far as feel, warmth and punch. That sucker hammers some nights. Not interested in discovering any other new basses at this point but, I love color variety.

Jazz necks, too thin at the nut. My hand cramps up on them.
