I want to combine 2 bass cabs. Thoughts?

I would like to get more power (volume) out of my Line 6 lowdown 300.

My idea is that I would like to use my Hartke HA3500 to help support my sound.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can hook these 2 amps together without breaking my gear and having it sound good? Or has anyone done something similar with other gear?

If you are looking to get each amps tone from the cabs, then you simply need a signal splitter to run an input to each head.

If you prefer the "tone and sound" of one head over the other:

Take the "preferred head" and run your bass into it.

Look for an effects loop or a line out on the preferred head.

Run a line from the line out or the effects loop "send" to the other amps Effects loop "return" - By doing this, you will be bypassing the second amps preamp stage, and only using the power section to amplify the signal from your preferred head.

DO NOT use a speaker output to go to your second amp.

Yes......he can (which is what I already stated in post above).


The trick though is *HOW* he connects the line out.

If the OP prefers the sound of the line 6, then he needs to run the line out to the FX return of the second amp.

It is not a good idea to just run it into the input of the other amp as you will have 2 preamps working at the same time, and may not be able to get a desireable tone out of amp 2.

Bass Pounder: You're right on for what I'm looking for. I want the sound of the Line 6 through my hartke and the ability to use the foot pedal to control the total sound volume for both rigs.

I think my Line6 has a only a medi cable output .... the 3 prong kind? .... Think to rig it i should get a 3 prong to single jack cable and tie it into the effects loop on my hartke?

I hope it works .... .... well ... the D.I. is used to send the signal to a mixer which uses a power amp to run it through a PA system correct?


So shouldn't it function the same was as a line level signal?

In theory it should. However, when connected to a mixer, the input has it's own pre-amp to bring the D.I. level up to useable level for the mixer.

Some D.I.'s are hot, some are soft. If your output is too soft, it may not have enough grunt to get a useable volume out of the Hartke.

The only way to tell is to try it. The cable is not that expensive.

Better to use a buffered splitter and send the bass signal to each amp. The disadvantage is that the effects on the Line 6 aren't sent to the Hartke, The advantage is the same. The HA 3500 is a pretty good sounding head on it's own. Better than the Line 6 IMO ...

You could try using a Radial Pro Reamp. Take the XLR DI from the Line 6, to the Re-amp box. Takethe output of the Reamp to the Hartke. I use that box in my studio to take Line level off my Digi-Console and send it to a guitar amp for re-tracking. Ought to work for this as well I think ... (Sweetwater has a reasonable return policy for you if the experiment is not a success.)

Well ... plugging in the D.I from the line 6 to anywhere on the Hartke does nothing.


If i were to say ... .not even want to bother using the Hartke amp .. and just wanted to use the 3500 cab that came with the combo .. whats an inexpensive way to hook that up ... any ideas?
