The sound is very good! Clear high pitch, lots of resonance, overall sounds super clear and good.How does it sound!?
Thanks for the pics. As far as I can see, there's no purfling, so it's difficult to have an opinion on whether the shoulders have been modified. If it were me, I'd just have it appraised for insurance purposes and play it.
Also, in the interest of full disclosure, I am not a luthier, just a guy who's been around basses for 40+ years and paid attention when those with knowledge and experience spoke.

Similar to one I had too that was described as "turn of the century German". I always assumed the label had been lost but there are enough of them out there sans label I wonder did they ever have them?i hate responses like this, but that bass does look very similar to my old bass that jeff bollbach deemed "1880s german"
