I was robbed yesterday

Believe it or not, that happened twice to us last year. We were living in Dunwoody, GA. which is supposed to be a nicer part of town. The first time we were at the bar and our first floor apartment window was kicked in. All they got was a camera and two laptops. Once our lease was up we moved to another apartment in town. A few months later my girlfriend comes home from work and they went through all our stuff. Fireboxes, drawers, shoe boxes. They took her jewelry box that had a pair of diamond earrings that were family heirlooms. I had a box with my grandfathers dog tags, masonic ring, a lot of stuff that wasn't worth a lot but meant a ton to me. They also got the standard stuff like the tv, ps3, laptops... I was gutted.

We have since left the state and won't be going back :)

This event has me seriously thinking on investing on a wireless camera surveillance system. Also, every time I am out of town for more than a day I will move my gear and other valuables to storage.

Quick follow-up on my post about wireless cameras. I recently went on vacation and was worried about a possible break-in into my home, so I went out and bought a VueZone 3-camera set. Very easy to set up, can trigger alerts via email and text to your phone, and one of the cameras has an infrared lamp that allows vision in total darkness. It's not 100% bulletproof but for the investment ($299 at Best Buy) it allowed me to check things back at home (which I did 4-5 times a day) and provided extra peace of mind. I highly recommend it.

Sorry to hear about the break in. The same thing happened to my house about a year ago. He broke in as soon as we left for work in the morning. In my case I was lucky he completely ignored the music gear (he did get our cameras though).

Turned out he was our next door neighbour. He got caught a day or two later in another adjacent house—he was essentially robbing every address on the block one at a time.

Since then we've installed security, with an internal camera that we can access via smart phone/computer etc. Highly recommended.

Also, talk to some of your neighbours, see if anyone else has any problems—and at least warn them about your break in. If we'd known the old guy across the street had been robbed (he didn't call the police), we might have been able to put preventive measures in place.

This sucks man, I hope you can recover your stuff.

The computer that was found turned up at a computer repair tech's. He claims that his 12 year old nephew found it in a ditch. The tech completely wiped the drive and started using it. The police believe him, and have a forensic IT guy going through the computer now. Still no insurance payment until the investigation is complete.

Didn't read posts after page1, and this kind of stuff makes me sick to my stomach :scowl:

After dealing with the police I would immediately put the list together for your insurance company, and make one to take to local music stores and pawn shops locally and in neighboring towns. I would also be combing sites like Craigslist for the next few months in hopes of spotting something there ... either posted by the thief or the next person that might unknowingly buy it from them.

Sorry about that.

In about 1997, I bought a townhouse in a new project. The day I moved in, the builder was still around doing a little finish-up work. I was unloading some of my stuff into the garage, including a nice Mesa 1x15 cabinet I had then. One of the builder guys noticed it, evidently he was a musician too, and we had a short conversation about it.

Months later, I went down to the garage to get it and bring it inside. It was gone. Probably since a few days after I'd moved in.

The police have moved it to the "inactive" file, meaning that unless the perpetrator walks in and confesses, they'll do no more work on the case.

The insurance is still balking, no progress there.
