I was looking for a OD for my bass, I use a Yamaha trbx305 and a Fender Okoume jazz bass, which I am soon going to put a Fender fretless neck on. I was using a TC Mojomojo it was okay, I tried the Boss ODB and the OD-3 boring. Oh and I use a MarkBass Jeff Berlin combo and sometimes with a 210 cab. I went to a friends house and for some reason I had the Mojomojo in the car. Anyway he is a music teacher and has a little studio he makes a little money from. We were talking about overdrives so I went out to the car and got the Mojo he loved it for guitar, I said you got anything to trade anything, he had a Boss MT-2. So I said why not if I don't like it I might be able to sell it to a kid. But so far set the eq just right I love the thing on bass. It makes the bass very interesting and I can get some really good harmonics. Very cool pedal for what I do.

The MT-2 gets a ton of hate from pedal nerds (it's a bit of a meme on the pedal FB page I'm on), but it has some great tones if you tweak it a bunch. The guitarist in my band has one and gets some great harsh black metal tones. I know that Nick Cageo who plays bass in Mutoid Man has one in his rig, but it's not his main fuzz so I'm not sure what he uses it for, but his tones are huge. Kinda tempted to try and pick one up off eBay and have a fiddle with one.

Amps and other pedals make a huge difference for the MT-2. I gave up on it eventually but it sure has some awesome but hard to dial in tones.

Different strokes, you never know until you try. I have an old Boss SD1 that does it for me very well adding a clean blend makes it even more better.

I've tried the boss mt-2 metal zone on bass a couple of times and it does have some great sounds. first time I ever tried it was when I was at the rehearsal spot from a band I use to play in. I've tried out my brother's boss metal zone through a friend's ampeg svt and I thought it sounded phenomenal. this combination is what inspired me to come up with a patch I created on my zoom b3. the biyang metal end distortion pedal also sounds pretty cool on bass. that pedal is basically a modified boss mt-2 metal zone.

By the way, If you're looking for a metal distortion for bass, check out the amptweaker bass tight metal jr. that pedal sounds totally awesome and you can get a killer distorted bass sound without obliterating lows. if I had the cash for it, I would totally get one.

The Boss MT2 sounds great on my 4 string. I found out yesterday the B string on my 5 string bass really sucks. I spent a couple hours turning knobs, could not get a good sound. Might have to go back to my OD3 until I find something different. I don't have enough room on my board for two overdrive pedals.

Hi, I've just recorded 3 tracks through a Metal End (1 clean line and 1 wet with the pedal) and it sounds huge for bass. Also tried another part with a Rocktron Zombie and it definitely worked. Both pedals designed for guitars but very capable for bass notes
