I watched the Grammy Awards, and "don't get it".

Just my humble opinion but this latest hyper-produced, auto-tuned, Garageband-created kind of music doesn't move my emotions like bands back from the 70s that sounded raw yet their tuning was achieved by their crafty ears and words like loops or samples meant totally different things.

The Grammys of today have been permeated by the cybernetic music industry and only traces of genuine human talent remain, on record, tape and stage.

Adele is a fine singer. I enjoy her from the comfort of my home, wearing studio-grade headphones and on YouTube. No more than that.

I always have to drop back and remember that there are many, many types of music listeners, and not many are versed in music or could give a flip about how it comes about. Basically, music speaks to people very differently, and I truly believe that for very many music listeners it is just a medium to carry fashion in clothing and visual stimulation including dance and lighting. I don't get or like rap music at all, but I can understand how people enjoy it.

You can decide to interpret it that way if it makes you feel better, but the fact is many of us find "pop culture" nothing but silly - and the Grammys is 100% pop culture, not music. If you find pop culture so important that anyone rolling their eyes must be cast into the "grumpy old man" category, I'd say we're simply from wildly different worlds.

This isn't anything they've been saying about the Grammys for years. If anything, it is more relevant to actual pop music than it was a generation ago. Take a look at the history of top song:

- only Beatle song to make it was Michelle
- 1976 - Send in the Clowns
- 1977 - I Write the Songs
- 1987 - That's What Friends Are For
- 1988 -Somewhere Out There
- 1999 - My Heart Will Go On

To give you an idea.

Never knew there were so many cool people on TB. Can I be cool too? I'll declare anything mainstream to be lame and refuse to kow-tow to society's homogeny. I'll dye my hair an outrageous color or get piercings or tattoos or wear flannel or leather or grow a beard or wear a fedora so people can see I'm unique and different just by looking at me in my non-conformist, uh, ...uniform? Heh heh, kids these days (including those inner children). The more things change, the more they stay the same. Like what you like.

Whoa whoa , lets pump the brakes there hombres. It's not snobbery, or ego. The listening public just doesn't know any better; their ears have been trained since birth to like and accept a certain sound. Nothing wrong there.
As far as knowing that my Kung fu is stronger, I developed a simple test. Beyoncé, Adeile, etc, ect, make me throw up in my mouth. My music makes me happy. Scientific enough for me.

I'll be the first to say that Beyoncé is the most over rated sham out there I mean the woman has a song whose lyrics are just her saying "girls rule the world" over and over. That's said it works for these people. It's not my style but more power to them if people like it. Different strokes as they say

Indeed. It seems to me that the idea behind music is to entertain people, is it not? Pop music (being short for popular) entertains quite a LOT of people, therefore, it has value and fulfils music's purpose. I myself don't like 99% of pop music, but I can appreciate it's value to quite a huge number of people.
