First vote for the SR... An other difference is: btb are 35" scale length and SR are 34"... another difference than string spacing that affect playability, string tension, low B tightness... I had both 6 string versions (both bolt-on) and I prefered the SR models, nice slim necks, better for large interval and chords, but that is just my taste and opinion... String spacing was not an issue for me, as if you are new to 6 strings, anyway you will have to adapt to the 6 strings playing, so the spacing... I took me about a month to get used to the string spacing, and more to get used to how to play with two more strings (scale arpegio, etc...)

Try both and see what will do the trick for you... :D

Looking at the poll I cab see I'm swimming upstream too!

I love my SR506. Hey, I even love my GSR 206 even though it has a couple "beginner bass" issues. The tone, the feel the look, the spacing, the thin neck and did I say tone?

I'm sorry but everytime I hit a bass store I haul down a BTB or other High end Ibanez. I WANT to love them, I really do. They LOOK like a million. The quality is obviously there. Everything is PERFECT... and I hate every one of them! Don't know what it is. I look at it on the wall and I think "this one is going to be GREAT!" And I haul it down and I hate the tone, I hate the feel, I hate the preamp, I hate the spacing, And it's awful because I really, really want to love them!

That's my story.

The ESP/LTD 406, 416 and 1006 are insane basses at their price points. So many mass produced 6ers on the market that offer a lot of bang for the buck.

Pretty awesome that that's a problem, right? I'm just flooded with options. But really, the ESP just felt really nice. I don't know if I want to spend 1100 on the 1006, but the 416 is making me curious.

I absolutely love it. I have a few 6ers, both mass produced and high end boutique, and it is really nice seeing a lot of 6ers at shops now. Makes getting strings easier too. The ESP 416 is a serious piece of equipment for the price. I really dig ESP stuff. Have a few high end 4 strings and plan on adding a Phoenix II to the arsenal soon. ESP, Ibanez and Schecter have great lineups right now. I am a die hard Ibanez BTB lover and am keeping my fingers crossed they do a MIJ BTB again. Been trying to get my hands on a 6 string MIJ BTB bolt on for years and no one wants to give them up lol

Lol yeah, upon further inspection, the 1006 seems worth saving up for. Just generally better, bridge, hardware, tuners, etc. One thing I just can't get over with the BTB series is how they have 24 frets on just 2 strings. For a lot of tapping stuff I do, I need that 24th fret on those 4 strings, so those ESPs are lookin nice.

The 1006's construction quality for its price is ridiculous. When I played one for the first time I was shocked it was an LTD and not a Japanese ESP built bass.On my BTB the lack of 24th fret on 4 of the strings was not noticable to me for some reason but I can totally see where you are coming from. I am not a big tapper myself so the lack of them is no big deal.

Too bad you don't live in my area or I would say you where more than welcome to try out my 676, or any other 6er I have, in person. For some reason 6ers just feel more natural to me so I am torn between being a big 4 string P bass guy (for the tone) and a 6er (for range and feel). Praying Fender will one day make a 6 string P bass so my dilema would be solved lol

Lol yeah, I like having the ability to just pluck some, say, triads or something on those upper 3 strings and fill in for a 2nd guitarist (prog metal trio here), so 6ers are attractive. I just wish the BTB's had that ONE EXTRA FRET AAAAAHHHH

There is no difference other than appearance on those instruments. You'll hear people say how *insert model number* will have a bit more highs/lows/mids but they all play exactly the same. Same electronics, everything.

Just pick the one you like most.

I really have to disagree here. I tried two BTB's this past weekend at Sam Ash...the 675 and the 775PB. The 675 has a walnut top with ash wings, and the 775PB with a poplar burl top and mahogany wings. Both were brand new (new strings), tested through the exact same amp and eq, with the 675 definitely sounded tamer and with less of that lo-mid "anchor" than the 775PB. The 675 also didn't seem as bright, which may? have had something to do with the satin/gloss comparison...not sure.
