I am looking at buying an ibanez AEB5E. I am very poor, but they are a reasonable price. Wondered if anyone has one and has played out with it. Just wondering if its worth it. Thanks

Ibanez acoustic bass

I have one and have mixed feelings about it. It is certainly large and not terribly comfortable. If you are playing with another musician, you will need to amplify it. On the other hand, I play at open mics where I would need to bring an amp to use with my electric bass, but my Ibby is welcome. I have not compared it with other acoustic basses for sound because I had no intention of paying more for an acoustic bass, so it did not matter if something else "sounded better". The only competition in that price range is the Dean Playmate, which is even bigger with a longer scale (34" vs 32" for the Ibby) and, for me, out of the question. It does come in handy for when you want to practice without turning on an amp.
It was also an immeasurable improvement on the Sky bass that it replaced http://www.amazon.com/Electric-Acou...id=1368362142&sr=1-2&keywords=sky+bass+guitar However, this bass is alright because the exposed fret ends allow it to be used as a saw in emergencies. The action could not be adjusted to allow playing it out, but it was an ok practice instrument.

I have an AEB5E that I keep at my parent's house and a Breedlove ABG in my home that I gig with. Unplugged I enjoy both of them equally. The Ibanez's 32" scale length is very comfortable and it's quite resonant even for a laminated top bass. The Breedlove is all solid wood.
The Breedlove plugged in has a great sound. I only plugged in the Ibanez at the store to be sure that the electrnics worked and it sounded fine. Since the instruments are 3000 miles apart I have not compared them directly but like I said the Ibanez is a very nice bass for not much money.
