ibanez basses; premium and prestige?

They are amazing basses, well crafted, and usually gorgeous. I won't get one though, because I prefer to get the cheaper SRs and mod them.

Many returned instruments, and bad (since deleted) reviews at my local Long&Mcquade suggest I'm not alone. But again, I'm up in northern Ontario, so I doubt if folks down in the States would have any problem.

Mine has the wenge neck w/ KTS titanium rods...IIRC, they've since s/o to panga panga and graphite reinforcement. It can get fairly humid here in Virginia....c'mon down!

My SR406 was made in 2001 and is a work horse. I got it off a friend of a friend of a friend who got divorced and sold it but it was bought brand new and never took it out of the house. $200. I have no qualms about taking it to a seedy gig or practice session with new people because if it were to lose its life I wouldn’t sweat it for what I paid. Have already had it for years. Love the string spacing and the low action on Ibanez. Stock pickups are great. Onboard tone is nothing to write home about, but who doesn’t have pedals nowadays. I have had a lotta people tell me it’s heavy but honestly weight is an afterthought for me, if you stand with a strap for hours you’re gonna feel something no matter what. Holds up great for galloping and bends for metal, and does really well for jazz noodling. Some may say it can’t slap but I would have to say that’s a skill issue and leave it at that. I slap it every time I pick it up.
