I checked out these YouTube videos (and plenty more, too). Every one I checked uses clean tones. I like a little edge on my tone, a little growl from overdriving the tubes in my pre-amp. I wonder if anybody here has a tone like that on a BTB?
I use overdrive a lot with my BTB, sounds good, but I tend to use quite a lot of gain, nothing too subtle.
i walked into long n mcquade yesterday and they were pulling a brand new BTB 4 string out of the shipping box and placing it on the wall.
i inquired about it as it was very nice looking in the natural flat finish.
what was interesting was that i thought it was a short scale bass; it didn`t appear to be that big, but i was surprised it measured out at 34 inches.
i was amazed at what you get for $700- and it played and sounded pretty good.
i am a confirmed Dingbat, but i really liked that bass at that price point.
i may even get one just for fun.

My BTB405QM, bit dinged and dented thanks to a distinct lack of room in my house, but I love her.
Now have big splits in the BTB. Sorry about the crappy cell pic, but don't have my camera right now.

Better. Much better. More aggressive than the stock pups. Sort of a jazz bass-style aggression (at least to my ears).
I'm not sure what the model is. Maybe someone can help.

I really love this bass. It became my main bass when I bought it four years ago. Every once in a while I think that I'd rather play a four string and I get my Jazz out, but I invariably I begin to miss the tone of my BTB.

Thanks! I like the looks of the Yamaha more, and it's more comfortable and ergonomic, but it's actually heavier and the sound is definitly better on the BTB. It's way more versatile and has a killer slap tone, even unplugged. With the Yamaha you can pretty much get only one type of sound and just EQ it a little bit, so there aren't much options soundwise.
