I have since dropped in a Nordstrand Preamp and a set of Nordstrand Dual Coils and the bass is freaking amazing. Super versatile, plays great and I get compliments on my tone all the time!

Gosh, that's a tough question. I should know since I wired them myself, hahaha :rollseyes: I wanna say they are in parallel, with a coil tap on each pick up. I need to re-wire though. I accidentally used a DPDT switch for each pup, but I needed to use a SPDT :hiding:

I'm also going to switch out the blend knob for a Gibson-style pickup selector. We've been touring too much lately for me to get the mods finished. Mixed blessing I guess.

Great. I thought you could only get it Series or Parallel.

Yes that is what I wanted to hear! So its a BTB1205E, made in Korea in Sept of 2005. Thanks for doin some research. I am going to post in classified and wanted to be sure i had all available info. This is a sweet sounding bass and if

A) My fret hand didn't need the small neck of a 4 string, like the 1400E I just bought :)

and

2) if more than 4 strings didn't make me fumble around like a first timer

I would keep it. But alas it has to go...

just in case anyone is interested - i ripped the pre-amp out of my btb405qm the other day and WOW what a difference. it still has the same "sound" (read: character) but all of the strings are more even in tone and presence now. the highs are great now. when i first got it, i didnt like the highs at all. when playing by myself they seemed flat and boring, and in a band setting everything would disapear above a certain fret/string.

right now the pickups are wired straight to the jack. the highs are a little much but can we easily adjusted down on my amp. the bass as a whole has alot less output now, but thats expected taking out an 18v active pre-amp. (this is also why they make gain knobs on amps). i plan on wiring it VVTT with a 3 position selector switch.

overall, i am very pleased with the results and dont plan on putting the pre-amp back in (unless i get an aftermarket one sometime down the road). i played it durring band practice yesterday and it sat very well in the mix with great punch and sustain.

Sahe_Bassist, I did a similar thing on my Filakovsky jazz bass.

This bass has Sadowsky pickups, and the Sadowsky vintage tone circuit. I absolutely love the sound of this bass, but after having the instrument almost three years, I discovered that there's a defeat switch on the tone knob; pull it up, and you get the sound of the pickups clean.

I don't like either sound better, but it was refreshing to discover that an instrument whose sound I love had yet another tone to offer.

It pays to experiment.

nice find, my brother had something similar on a jackson guitar he had, a push/pull pot that was a boost. i think he had the guitar for a good year before he found it.

i love experimenting on my gear. its fun and gives me something to do. most of my gear is modded or messed with on one way or another...except for my peavey cirrus...that ones perfect the way it is.

but now that i've done the mod, i think this will become an even more useful part of my collection. i really like the guitar, its comfortable to play, my first fiver, nice b string, and now it has the sound i was looking for. not to mention it's dead sexy red/purple color and mono betty strap i got for it!
