Ibanez BTB Club, Part 2!

Hello,

I have recently picked up an Ibanez BTB570FM (love that green) and I am really enjoying the bass. Do you experienced BTB owners have any suggestions on EQ settings on the bass to really bring out the sound?

Also, I am thinking about putting some DR Black Beauties on it tonight. Any other string suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

I have Sunbeams on mine and love the sound. Same model.

I agree with macro, you should definitely invest in a decent strap, it is worth it in the long run.

mexirican, no need to cut that out yet. I would first try a bit of wood glue in there and press the broken pieces together. I looks like a fairly clean break, so it should work without cutting it out.

Im thinking of getting a BTB550 or a SR600. I believe this a BTB thread, but whats your call on this?

I've owned three soundgears and loved them, but I've got to say after playing my BTB for awhile I grew to prefer it's wider string spacing. The body took some getting used to -it's not as ergonomic as the SR basses. The neck profile is the best of any bass I've owned and its the one bass I don't think I'll ever sell. Plus it looks dead sexy.

Just finished converting my Btb 400qm to fretless. Plays and sounds like a dream. That long scale really works well for fretless.

Shakman,
I have no experiance with a frettless bass at all and just last week bought a BTB400qm thinking of doing what you just did.I love the way yours looks and was just wondering if the tone changed on yours. My tech doesn't seem too keen on me making mine frettless as he said he thinks it will get too muddy sounding.I sort of wanted it to be able to get closer to an upright sound by taped strings and maybe a foam mute. Just wondering what your impressions were so far.Thanks.

There does seem to be a slight loss in trebles and high mids, but to be expected with the switch to flatwound strings. But it's also the change I was looking for in converting it to fretless, as I've dialed back the treble on the eq as well. Sounds soo smooth. Also it's hard to see in my crappy phone pics, but coordinating the fret line colors is hella cool too.

Thanks for the info. I think mine is going to go frettless soon. I like the way the lines look on yours now. It really won't hurt this bass to lose some high's or upper mid's anyhow, a bit brute for me as is, I have her backed way back on the low end already.have fun with yours, a new journey begins with mine.

Cool, thanks bro, have fun. Also a tip- if you decide to go with the colored plastic fret lines- find a suitable color and material, cut a pretty good sized rectangle of it, and use a large, high quality paper cutter to slice off the thin strips. I tried using shears, razor/exacto with a ruler, etc., no dice. I brought mine to work to use the cutter and cut like 80 strips, then used the ones that best fit. For the material I used the cut out flat bottom of a large rock salt scoop I found at the hardware store lol. Good luck.

Just got it today. This bass is unbelievable. Sonically superb and more playable than both of my Fender American Series 5 Strings... Can I get a club member number please?:D

Update... I highly recommend ditching the stock strings ( Elixer 125 B set) in favor of a set of Ken Smith Staineless Taper wounds(130 -44 w/B E A tapered). For the life of me I could not get the OEM Elixer 125 "B" string to intonate properly, It was flat no matter how short I adjusted the saddle length. The Ken Smith strings intonated perfectly practically right where the monorail saddles sat in the body.
