Ibanez BTB Club, Part 2!

Has anyone put Nordy pups in a BTB675? Did you have to do any routing? What is the fit like? I am wondering if the single coils that are in the new 1405s are standard nordys or a custom build for the 1405 that I might be able to get a hold of if they fit the 675. Last I heard was that they don't fit, but I never got around to measuring to confirm that for myself.

When I put dual coils in my 676, I had to widen the pick up routes. It was fractions of an inch, but it still needed to be done for them to Fit. Also, the Nordy soap bar-style pickups are not as long as the Bartolini Mk-2s, so you get a gap on both sides of the pup. It isn't huge but it definitely isn't perfect.

I recently bought a used BTB 400qm to try my hand at frettless. I have since decieded to keep the neck the way it is but I am having a problem with , I think, the preamp. I put 2 new batteries in and everything seems to work as it should but I'm getting a lot of ghost notes and bad harmonics. I did check the nut and everything seems good. Could be the strings so I have ordered a new set.I am seriously thinking about having this one wired passive as I think it would have a better lower tone. Was just wondering if anyone else has had this type of problem, or has anyone taken their bass to passive?

i would say change the strings and get it set up correctly, i dont think the preamp would cause "dead notes"/spots.

i wired mine passive not long ago, and i like it much better. :bassist:

just in case anyone is interested - i ripped the pre-amp out of my btb405qm the other day and WOW what a difference. it still has the same "sound" (read: character) but all of the strings are more even in tone and presence now. the highs are great now. when i first got it, i didnt like the highs at all. when playing by myself they seemed flat and boring, and in a band setting everything would disapear above a certain fret/string.

right now the pickups are wired straight to the jack. the highs are a little much but can we easily adjusted down on my amp. the bass as a whole has alot less output now, but thats expected taking out an 18v active pre-amp. (this is also why they make gain knobs on amps). i plan on wiring it VVTT with a 3 position selector switch.

overall, i am very pleased with the results and dont plan on putting the pre-amp back in (unless i get an aftermarket one sometime down the road). i played it durring band practice yesterday and it sat very well in the mix with great punch and sustain.

Here's my extremely reliable workhorse, my Prestige 1005E (Japanese, '02)....

I play the exact same bass, mine's just a year younger, but still MIJ. In my oponion, that's exactly what mine is too - an extremely reliable, well built workhorse. I've used it since ´04, in lots og different genres, and it just gets the job done with no fuss. Soundmen seem to like it, it's supposedly easy to deal with in a live mix, and the few couple of times I've had the priviledge to take it to the studio, producers have complemented the evenness of the sound. It's just a darn good bass, I think.

Yesterday I saw a video on Youtube of a man who bought a BTB Premium 1405e. Unfortunatly, he played it unplugged.. :( I wish I could hear the sound of it :(

That's pretty mindboggling. What's the point, he wanted to show off how pretty it is? Lol. Here's one I found. Only about 45 seconds or so of playing, and he's got the treble dimed (it sounds like), but it's something. With that active/passive switch it seems like just about every tone imaginable is at your fingertips.

Hey, that's great!! :hyper: Have been looking for a video like that for a while now! Don't care about the length, sound samples are more importnant too me :p

Was looking for a number earlier, but didn't post a pic. My bad. This weekend, I added a 2012 BTB676 to keep my 2002 BTB405QM company.
Pretty please, can I have a number? Been a HUGE fan of these basses for a long time.
