Ibanez BTB Club, Part 2!

The EADGC setup was the result of never using the low-B, the string was too floppy and I'd never had a response I liked on the amps I'd played through.

I play in fifths tuning exclusively nowadays, so I'm planning on tuning my BTB to CGDAE (low to high) with .145, .090, .060, .040 and a high E I still need to research on. It'll probably sound dope.

Here's my BTB676fntf Limited Edition Fretless 6. The fretless BTBs were made at the Cort plant in Indonesia from June through August of last year (according to one of the admins on forum.ibanez.com), apparently Ibanez U.S. only received about 45 of them. Ibanez doesn't make actual production numbers available so I don't know exactly how many were made, but I bet there aren't a whole hell of a lot of them out there.

It had great action right out of the box, and the tone is really nice. The neck on this bass is fantastic; I'm quite happy with this instrument.

I really like the contours around where the neck meets the body:

Got a lot of compliments from a luthier tonight.

He was impressed how true the whole instrument was from the factory.

For $45 he's going to re-set up the bass head to toe and tune the bridge because the Thomastik C is thinner. Plus oil the wood. Good deal?

Is it hard to replace the plastic nut? What is the preferred replacement material?

Had to:
1- change one of the pots
2- rewire the G piezo bridge pickup
3- adjust the truss rods, to flatten out the neck bow

But now it feels right for me and I love this baby!

Got the BTB676F back from the Luthier with a custom Bone nut.

Ibanez does not offer anything except the composite nut even in the Premium lines.

The plastic nut was molded hollow like a lego.

The tuning nuts were adjusted for the wood losing some of its sea moisture.

Now the sustain, is 100% better and the intonation for the flat wounds is amazing. I thought it was me learning to play on the wide neck. Frets 12+ on C are very clear.

A little oil goes a long way and the wood is now richer.

I'm getting my BTB570fm back tomorrow from the luthier with a new bone nut and fresh elixirs. The sustain was always good on that bass but I'm sure it will be amazing now. Can't wait, and I'm glad you got one for the 6 string

The nut was crafted from a blank. 3 hour task. $60.

The original was used as a template and the string slots were filed and polished. B is a little high but, if I ever use a thinner B then it'll sit lower.

5 X 54mm is the size if someone wants to buy one.

I still have the original Elixers that the bass came with for sale. Played 3x.

I got my bass back about an hour and a half ago. I didn't think there was going to be this much of a difference but now it sustains like a piano. It really is unbelievable. I'm booked with the band tonight tomorrow and every weekend from here on out, I want to let this baby ring for a while.

I certainly recommend getting a bone nut cut. Was $60 from my luthier

stock nut is not good on 776pb?

Mine is just fine. Actually better than fine. My former instructor plays some really nice Foderas (is that redundant? ) and he was impressed with the tone of my BTB.

As to the weight of my BTB776PB, it is 10lbs according to the bathroom scale.

I would like to know what the BTB7 weighs. Anyone that has had one for a while willing to give feedback? Don't seem to be any popping up for sale so maybe folks love 'em and don't want to get rid of them.

I had an '05 406QM that I have regretted selling from the week after I let it go. So fast forward several years, and I picked up an '00 405QM and remember why I love the basses. My current one's got an Aguilar OBP3 in it, and it came with a custom made fretless neck. I'm waiting on a new nut (the B string slot is destroyed; a zip tie is holding it in place) and then I'll be very happy!

I can't believe it's getting more of my time than my #1 Carvin.

Really thinking about switching pups and preamp, any suggestions? Currently the bass seems lacking clarity

Love the green strings! As for clarity... I am a fan of the Aguilar pre, I find barts to be too mellow (though I have one that I love) I suspect a pre swap would be the ticket! You could also look at the Audere offerings... I have liked those as well.

If your wanting clarity and punch I would recommend the Nordstand Big singles or big Splits. I currently have the big singles on my BTB 1405 and it's the best bass I've ever seen or heard. Awesome combination!
